Rain Sees Surrey – MCC Clash End In Draw

The Champion County match between Surrey and MCC ended in a draw after rain ruined the final day’s play in Dubai. Having seen Surrey reply to their first-innings’ 265 with 520, MCC began day four on 221-1, with Dom Sibley sitting on 102.

The opener added 26 to his total before he was bowled by veteran all-rounder Rikki Clarke. Tom Westley was the first to go for 28, as leg-spinner Scott Borthwick claimed his fourth wicket of the match. Tom Abell failed to trouble the scorers, falling lbw first ball to Clarke, with MCC ending on 265-4 when the heavens opened and play was abandoned for the day.

Clarke returned the best bowling figures, with 2-11 from nine overs while Borthwick took 2-64 from 18. County champions Surrey will continue the preparations for the start of the season when they entertain Durham MCCU on Thursday, April 4, with Essex the visitors as the competitive action gets underway a week later.
