Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has provided a positive fitness update as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.
The Brazil international has not featured for the Reds since being forced off 41 minutes into the 4-1 season-opening win against Norwich City at Anfield on August 9.
It was revealed afterwards that he had suffered a calf injury with boss Jurgen Klopp estimating that he would be absent for between four to six weeks.
Alisson has now been out for almost a month and looks poised to step up his bid for a first-team comeback.
Liverpool have won all four games Alisson has missed to date with summer signing Adrian stepping in to fill the void.
But the Spanish custodian has had a couple of erratic moments in those matches and news of Alisson’s imminent comeback will be music to the ears of the fans.
The 26-year-old has been an immense figure in the Liverpool backline since Klopp paid out an initial £56million to sign him from Roma 12 months ago.
Alisson was an ever-present in the Premier League last season and received the Golden Glove for most clean sheets with 21.
He also kept a clean sheet as Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final on in Madrid June 1.
Alisson, who took to social media to provide an image of him in training, has the second week of the international break to work on his fitness.
And, while the visit of Newcastle next weekend could come too soon, it is hoped that he will be back between the sticks within the six-week time frame.
Liverpool travel to Napoli in their opening Champions League Group E game on Tuesday, September 17, while a trip to face Chelsea the following Sunday would be an ideal game for Alisson to make his return.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
