Rohr: Eagles Feel Motivated To Beat Tunisia; We’ll Field Strong Lineup

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says his team have strong desire to beat Tunisia in their AFCON 2019 Third-Place match at the Al Salam Stadium Stadium, Cairo on Wednesday after last Sunday’s disappointing semi-final defeat to Algeria, reports Completesports.com.

Rohr’s charges went down to an agonising 2-1 loss to the Desert Foxes of Algeria with Riyad Mahrez converting a late free-@kick for the North Africans.

The Super Eagles have a chance to end the competition on a winning note by going home with the bronze medal.

Rohr restates that his team remains motivated despite their failure to make it to the final and will give their all against Tunisia.

“We are motivated for tomorrow’s game. We consider it as a top priority to finish the competition on a winning note. We hope to be able to end without any injuries,” Rohr told a news conference on Tuesday.

“Losing in the semifinal was a big disappointment for us. We were down for a while, but it is another match and we have to go again.

“The defeat against Algeria was a big disappointment for us especially as we conceded the second goal in the last minute.

“We have analysed the match again. We watched the video together. We had more possession than Algeria and more shots on target . We want to finish well. It will be better to finish with a win in this game than lose the final. ”

Rohr also hints he will name a strong line-up for the game even as he expresses the desire to give playing time to some of his fringe players.

“We have used 21 players and it will be interesting to see all 23 players play,” he added.

“We always take our games seriously, even against Madagascar, although we felt it will be good to give game time to some players. We are well motivated to win against Tunisia who are ranked higher than us.

“They are the second highest ranked team in Africa and we are behind them. That is enough motivation for us to try to win the game.”

mstwwwww sakare, he don’t know anything he is just in talking not as a coach, is not a shame for the defeat? can you imagine what this man is saying? we have problem in this country how can so called white man fail the assignment giving to him and he refuse to take responsibility and the mouth to talk? is not ashame for the defeat? we have too much problem in this country, some people are still appreciating failure? we cannot move forward as long as this people remain in charge, serious countries like Cameroun they don’t tolerate non sense serdorf is out? turn over a new leaf that’s how life is? after all the support that was giving to this man and yet nothing to show? is not a new thing Nigeria ve been to world cup before and play in the knock stage, is not a new thing Nigeria win third place in AFCON with a local coach? So what there to appreciate from rohr if not for the selfish gain of some people. God will surely expose them soon.

  • We are not trying to defend Rohr. Though this young generation may not know when they heard of Westerhof winning nations cup that he went for it trice before he succeeded. We also know that almost everybody in Nigeria is a coach but may not reach even the
quarter fonal if they are given the job. I beg, let Rohr continue his building work. We will get stronger next time as we proceed. We should give him a second chance.

  • We should know that the Super, Super Eagles of Westerhof which we all are talking about as refference point, was built for six years period because he had the backing of the then Military Vice President Augustus Aikhomu, without which it would not have been achieved. Even Ida Peterside was used as a goalkeeper and was later dropped because of non performance. Rome was not built in a day. We will be there again as we continue to build gradually. Not in fighting and wrangling, or employing and sacking without continuity.

@Ben is not second chance wooh is fourth chance now please and check most rohr interview after world cup he boost not to make three mistake he did during world cup in cairo? for how long will you be giving chance to some1 that doesn’t know what do to on his owned? Nigeria have pass that level in football? Nigeria is not Niger or Gabon? we have a name and history to protect? is super eagle a learning school or is NFF responsibility to take a foreign coach abroad for learning course and paid him much dollars? what exactly are we? black man monkeys

  • see exactly the reason we re not going forward… i hv never seen or hear this. sending an incompetent worker worker back to school by the “employer”. i remember a man workin under oyinbo man and was doin well. but on a fateful day oyinbo man caught this man sleeping on his duty and he was sacked imidiately… when can we act like oyinbo people and progress like them? ever since i saw pinnick move all super eagle match to west end school field i lost hope on him.
