Rohr Monitoring Moffi, Awoniyi, Others Ahead 2021 AFCON Qualifiers

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed he is keeping a close tab on the duo of Terem Moffi and Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Benin Republic and Lesotho, reports Completesports.com.

Moffi has hugged the headlines following his impressive performances for Lorient in the French League this season.

The 21-year-old has scored six goal in 17 league appearances for the modest side including the winner in the 3-2 home win against champions Paris Saint-Germain last month.

Awoniyi on the other has hit the back of the net five times and provided three assists in 18 league appearances for Bundesliga club Union Berlin.

”We have some new players that can be scouted, some of them are playing in Germany, we have one in Union Berlin ( Awoniyi) which is a good team this season,” Rohr declared in an interview with Super Eagles TV.

“We have other players who are playing in France, Lorient . We have players who are doing well in Eastern Europe, also Austria, Czech Republic and we know all what all of them are doing.”

The Super Eagles will travel to Cotonou for their first game against Benin Republic and later host Lesotho at home in March.

All I hear is Ike Ugbo, Awoniyi and Peter Olayinka. This team will finally have some diversity. World cup right around the corner, no playing games.

The likes of Terrem Moffi and Sadiq Umar have made a good case to be on the next list.
    Let the selection headache begin!

  • Awoniyi has stopped scoring for a while now, others are still banging in the goals. I hope he rediscovers his goal scoring prowess before the list comes out but knowing rohr he already knows who he will invite, whether their playing regularly, scoring goals or not

Osimhen has not been up to scratch. He must be dropped for a homebased striker.

  • Just read an article which said Rohr is planning on inviting awoniyi(ATk), moffi(Atk) and iheanacho (MF) for the next round of games. I guess its just a rumour, but won’t it be interesting if he does, the only issue with this is even if rohr invites all these players, he will end up leaving them on the bench or playing them out of position. The list should be out soon, then we will know what to expect.
