Nigeria national team coach, Gernot Rohr will be gunning for revenge when he leads the Super Eagles out against the Yellow and Blue of Ukraine tomorrow (Tuesday) in an international friendly game billed for Dnipro Arena, Completesports.com reports.
It will be the second time Rohr will be confronting the Ukrainians in his managerial career and the 66-year old will be hoping for a victorious outing having recorded a loss in his first game against Ukraine.
Rohr was on the losing side when he led the Menas of Niger Republic to a 2-1 loss to Ukraine in a friendly match in 2014. It can be recalled that the Geeman was the manager of the Niger national team from September 2012 until October 2014 when he resigned.
Rohr’s Niger Republic side actually lost to the Ukrainian team coached by Mykhaylo Fomenko. The current coach and former Ukraine striker, Andriy Shevchenko took over from Fomenko on July 15 2016 after serving as assistant coach for six months from February to July of same year.
The 66-year old German tactician will now be looking to avenge that defeat as he leads the Super Eagles against the Ukrainians who are yet to lose against six African teams in the past.
A win will therefore see Rohr making history as the first manager to lead an African team to beat Ukraine in a full international game.
A win for Rohr and Nigeria will also end the seven-year and 20 friendly games unbeaten run of the Yellow and Blue since 2012.
Ukraine are of course battle-ready as they will be looking to guard these two impressive feats when both countries clash at the Dnipro Arena tomorrow.
