Roma have reportedly made an official approach to Spurs over potentially signing £25m Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld. The Mirror claim the Serie A club are interested in the former Ajax centre-back, who has a £25m release clause in his current contract.

Reports in Italy earlier this week claimed Spurs had offered Roma £21m plus Alderweireld in a bid to sign Italy midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claimed Mauricio Pochettino had sanctioned the offer for the highly-rated 20-year-old – with Alderweireld a makeweight in the deal.
It was thought Alderweireld would complete a move away from Spurs quickly this summer because of the clause in his contract that means he will only cost £25m. However, the clause expires on July 25 and so far only north London rivals Arsenal have shown any interest in the former Atletico Madrid centre-back.
