  • Three players that were conspicuously absent from both the pitch and the bench this week: Uzoho, Kalu and Balogun.

Two players that returned to the pitch albeit in cameo roles of ten minutes or less: Shehu Abdullahi and Awaziem.

Seven players that did well in midfield: Mikel Obi, Etebo and Ajayi, Aminu Umar (Rizespor), Nwakaeme and Azeez (Lugo), Igbekeme (Zaragoza)

Five strikers that did well this week:
Success, Osimhen, Awoniyi, Ezekiel Henty (brace) and Odey.

Alas, only one keeper on show outside of Nigeria posing to it being a cup weekend: Daniel Akpeyi

Pls…whats up with Uzoho of late..? Is he Injured..? He’s not even been dressing up for a few weeks now…since he got married. I observed that Elche signed a new goalkeeper during this transfer window.

      • Your guess is as good as mine. I think the clubs silence on his absence means there may be something going on behind the scenes. If he were injured or ill, they would’ve made a statement like Brighton did about Balogun. Kalu’s club also made a statement to inform that he was rested last weekend.

The silence is what we and he should be worried about. And yes they signed a Brazilian keeper who went straight into the starting lineup

The signs are ominous, although its running late into the transfer window already, and not many clubs will need a goal keeper at this moment, but if he can get a space elsewhere, he better should…if he wants to keep his place in the SE for AFCON. The fact that his club now have a goal keeper they can call their own means they might not be disposed to ‘grooming’ a goal keeper for another team anymore.

          • Yes, although, there will be the usual last minute flurry of moves this week in the fimal few days. He needs to be speaking with his parent club as well as his agent fervently. I guess the appearance of Almapasu last week and his good performance in the Portuguese premier league with Feirense is a little consolation for SE. It remains to be seen if he is fielded again today for the second successive match

Brighton & Hove are sweating on Leon Balogun’s fitness ahead of tomorrow evening’s Premier League match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Nigeria international center back had been tipped by almost everyone to play his second game in the Emirates FA Cup against West Brom but wasn’t even included in the 18-man squad.

East Sussex newspaper, The Argus, has cleared up the mystery as they have disclosed that Balogun missed the tie through illness.

Brighton’s manager Chris Hughton had to hand a debut to Dan Burn as a result of the unavailability of the Super Eagles star.

The former Mainz and Darmstadt 98 defender is third choice in the pecking order of central defenders at Brighton, behind Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy and this has limited his appearances to only five starts in the Premier League.

The match against The Baggies was the first time Balogun failed to make Brighton’s match day squad since his arrival in England last summer.

The only two Nigerian players that scored two last week

She said, “I’m thrilled to get my first goal for Nigeria. To come off the bench and score is one of the stand out moments of my career.

“It was a through ball and I got in the middle of two defenders and outran them. I then got into a one-v-one situation with the goalkeeper and I took the ball around her and placed it into an empty net.”

The striker admitted that it was difficult to adjust her body clock to the time difference in the Far East, but was happy with the experience of playing in a new county.

“I knew a lot of the girls from previous camps, so it wasn’t a case of coming into a completely new team. The most challenging part was getting my body adjusted to the time difference, with very little time to do it.”

“It was a great experience overall, but a testing time for me as I was quite jetlagged. I also went into the camp on the back of three matches within a week here at Brighton.
