Rudiger Set To Miss Three More Weeks After Groin Surgery

Defender, Antonio Rudiger has suffered a huge setback on his way to making a return to the Chelsea squad after undergoing a groin injury.

The German defender has only featured for just 45 minutes this season since he underwent a knee operation. The player who joined in training last week had declared himself fit to play again only to break down that warranted him to see a specialist on Monday.

It had been reported that the defender would be out for a few weeks. towards the end of the month.

Lampard insisted it that isn’t the case. Speaking last week, Lampard said: ‘I saw the quotes. There was a miscommunication somewhere. He’s not fit and will be seeing a consultant on Monday.’

So it appears he would have to take some time to regain match fitness and be able to play at least.

Rudiger has been Chelsea’s most consistent defender since joining the club from Roma in a £30m deal in 2017, playing 90 times for the club in all competitions.

Rudiger slipped on a metal plate beside the touchline at Molineux and strained his groin and had to undergo a surgery.

Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori have struck up a good partnership in central defence to cover the void although they conceded four goals at home to Ajax on Tuesday.

Chelsea will be without long-term absentee Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the suspended Jorginho for Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace. Danish defender, Andreas Christensen is set to return after nursing a hamstring injury.
