Liverpool legend Ian Rush has backed new manager Andoni Iraola to succeed at Anfield, noting that a strong start in the first four or five games is vital.
While acknowledging the squad needs adjustments after summer exits, Rush trusts that injured players returning and potential late additions will stabilize the team.

In a chat with the club’s website, Rush stated that Iraola needs time to build and shape the squad, despite the high standards of winning the league.
“The first four or five games will be important. If you start well, that gives everyone the confidence to go on and be more successful.
“Winning the league is always the standard at Liverpool. Iraola has to be given time. If we win a trophy that’d be great, but if he’s given time, I’m sure he will deliver the goods.
“We’ve got players coming back from injury so, if we can get them back fit, it might be OK. There are still a few weeks to go, so let’s see what happens in terms of transfers.”

The Spaniard was appointed as Arne Slot’s successor back in June, with the Dutchman having paid the price for a poor second season in charge following the Premier League title triumph in his first campaign.
The pressure will be on for Iraola to not only deliver better performances, with Slot’s Liverpool having been booed on a number of occasions at Anfield during his final campaign, but also improve on last season’s fifth-placed finish, which saw the Reds scrape into the Champions League.
