Russell Gets Windies Recall

Andre Russell says he is hungry to perform well in the forthcoming World Cup after making it into the West Indies squad.

You have to go back to November 2015 for the last time the big hitting all-rounder was in the Windies ODI squad, but his impressive form for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL has resulted in a recall.

When asked about his selection, Russell told reporters: “I’ve been doing well, I’ve been back and forth with the selectors and the coaches back home. “I know once I’m doing my work here and performing, that will lead to national duties. “I wasn’t really focused on the World Cup.

I was just trying to make sure that whatever happened here, I did my best and put my best foot forward.” West Indies get their World Cup campaign underway on May 31 with a game against Pakistan at Trent Bridge, and Russel can not wait to get started.

He added: “I’m so hungry right now to represent the West Indies and smash sixes and do what I’ve been doing here and score hundreds.”
