Sadiq: Super Eagles Deserved Better Treatment From Fans

Super Eagles forward Sadiq Umar has expressed his disappointment with the way fans treat the team each time the result is against Nigeria.

He stated this on the backdrop of the team’s 2-1 loss to Rwanda in the final group game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Uyo.

Speaking with OmaSports TV, the Real Sociedad star noted that fans should learn to love and support the Super Eagles regardless of the result.

“If things continue like this, there are lots of players that will not like to play for the Super Eagles. When we come to play here, it’s not about the money, it’s for the love, you understand. Where you feel is your home, they tell you it’s not.

“When you go to Europe to play, you’re loved and supported there, but when you come to your country, your people begin to ask what you’re doing and who brought you, even telling you to return to Europe.

“Back in the days, they always told us to be careful because they won’t let us be ourselves in Europe, but now, it has nothing to do with the Europeans, we are the ones killing ourselves.

“There are some of my teammates (Super Eagles) that are down after every game we play because the fans are killing them on social media. Even if you don’t see comments, your name still gets mentioned.

“Football these days is about mentality. If you’re not mentally tough, you cannot play football,” the Real Sociedad striker said in an interview with OmaSports TV.

The truth is that most of you guys spend more time on social media than ought to spend on training and personal development. The Europena critisize even more than other continent.

You guys put up all the passion and commitments at your club but when you come home, except few who has put everything for their father land. You are no 1 culprit at he last afcon. You said you injured and went back to your club and plaid few days after. You have never shown passion for your national team.

  • @Akogun Femi Jimbola JP Another mediocre mind are you kidding me?. Result is secondary for a Team like Nigeria?? My friend Getat. These boys are representing Nigeria so called Giant of Africa in Ball how mediocre is your mind?? Nff has fed you with so much mediocrity for so long you are out here thinking we are Botswana oga Take your time. Or don’t comment at all after all Sadiq Umar is not even ment to be in the team if Nigeria does things on merit
.have you people seen it Nigerians are now okay with being mediocre. Anyway I don’t blame you I blame NFF for reducing some Super Eagles fans to mediocre mindset

You Sadiq has no business in the super Eagles.I will advice you to stop coming. The few minutes you spent on the pitch was horible. You had a golden chance to push the ball up front to osimhen on a potential goal bound move, you decieded to dribble and lost the ball

  • You guys need to stop blaming the players. You guys need to put the ultimate blame on the nff and the coach. These are the main culprits. How many times are the nff gonna keep saying that they Don’t have money to hire a competent coach. What about the money they’ve been collecting from the federal government and fifa?? Our stadia are nothing to write home about. It looks like a secondary school stadia. They keep keep retaining eguavoen that is a serial failure. How do we expect the players to give their utmost when the federation aren’t doing their part. To whom much is given, much is expected. Until we get our acts together, we don’t have any business being at world cup or African nations cup

Please tell us what is Eguavoen fault in the game, because he practically invited players that could have won both games. He wouldn’t enter the field of play to create goals or make errors that could have been avoided. So please start calling out the players and leave the coaches alone

      • To be sincere, the performance and bad results in both matches were not Eguavon’s fault. What will make me so angry with Eguavon is if he continue to invite below average players to Super Eagles camp again after this qualification. The two matches truly exposed the players that have no reason to be in Super Eagles camp. Sadiq that is talking trash here is one of them. Nigeria is loaded with talented players across the world to make this nation great.
