Saints Duo Named In England Squad

Southampton pair Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse have been included in England’s preliminary squad for the Nations League Finals.

Redmond’s one and only England cap came against Germany in a friendly back in March 2017 but he has been included in Gareth Southgate’s initial squad for the Nations League Finals this summer.

The 25-year-old scored a stunning goal in Southampton’s 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield Town on the last day of the Premier League season and his improved form has been enough to earn him a way back onto the international stage. Speaking about Redmond’s inclusion at a press conference, Southgate said: “He’s finished the season strongly and he looked good.

It’s a really good opportunity for him, with a couple of other players out.” Saints midfielder Ward-Prowse, who earned his second Three Lions’ cap earlier this year, retains his place in the squad and will be hoping to make the final cut when Southgate confirms his 23-man squad. The 24-year-old has been a key figure under Ralph Hasenhuttl since the Austrian took charge at St Mary’s in December and his performances helped keep the south-coast outfit safe this season.
