Seagulls Striker Nets Individual Honour

Seagulls striker Aaron Connolly has been named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season after finishing as the top scorer.

The Irishman scored 11 league goals for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Under-23 side while he also netted a further six goals in the Premier League International Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

He left the Amex Stadium on loan in February and made a couple of substitute appearances for Luton Town in League One. But his contributions for Simon Rusk’s Seagulls Under-23s earlier this season put him on the radar of several clubs as the 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.

Connolly received four PL2 Player of the Month nominations throughout the season, winning the November accolade, and also made a substitute appearance for Chris Hughton’s first team in the Carabao Cup against Southampton. He was awarded the Player of the Season over eight other hopefuls, including Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Bassala Sambou (Everton), Morgan Feeney (Everton), Rafael Camacho (Liverpool), Ellias Sorensen (Newcastle United), Adam Idah (Norwich City), Daniel Loader (Reading) and Will Smallbone (Southampton).
