Senegal Edge Equatorial Guinea, Zoom Into AFCON 2021 Semi-Finals

Senegal overcame Equatorial Guinea to set up an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Burkina Faso.

Ex-Bristol City forward Famara Diedhiou put Senegal ahead with a first-time strike following Sadio Mane’s pass.

Equatorial Guinea were awarded a penalty before the decision was overturned, but then equalised soon after through Jannick Buyla’s low shot.

But substitute Cheikhou Kouyate volleyed Senegal ahead, with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr side-footing a late third.

Senegal, who never have won the tournament, face Burkina Faso on Wednesday, before Egypt play Cameroon in the second semi-final on Thursday, with the final taking place on Sunday, 6 February.

Yes guys, I live in Canada and watched the match live. I am Nigerian Canadian and can confirm that Sam Adekugbe is a Nigerian Canadian and plays his professional football in Turkey. Ike Ugbo is another Nigerian Canadian who plays for the Canadian national soccer team. They are both great ballerrs and Canadians are very happy and proud of this team that is surely on the way to Qatar.

Thanks @Diran Great stuff. Proud of what u guys are doing over there. At least we’re sure seeing Nigerians in Qatar.

Nigerians repping other Nationals can not be sweet compared to our real and one Nigeria playing and representing this once great country. I don’t watch foreign Nigerians that’s a No No for me.

My gut feeling is that BF will parcel these Senegalese away.

Senegal is supposed to Plummet BF. BF kind of football is less inspiring. Senegal will be better representative for West Africa in the final than BF.

Fun fact: This is the first time the U.S. is losing to Canada in a world cup qualifier since 1980.
Sam Adekugbe doing a great job deputizing for the unavailable Bayern left back, Alphonso Davies. I guess Canada have no issues in the left back department.
Good for Adekugbe and Ugbo that they are donning the Canada jersey. They don’t have to worry about unpaid bonuses, bad pitches and other distractions.

. . . my brother, you know very well that even with all these comfort, we’re pulled back to naija. No place like home. The politician who jump into the next available plane to treat a little scratch on their little finger have little minds really.

Congratulations to Senegal. Again, I hope coach Eguavoen is watching. I saw no selfish play from Egypt and Senegal teams today.

Both teams tried to win matches and to win the tournament. But Super Eagles were creating chances upon chances but selfishness letting them down. Also, the team wasn’t clinical enough in front of goal.

No collective work upfront. Eagles strikers and the entire team need to work hard. No freekick specialists in the team apart from Nwakali. They were behaving as if they were doing us a favor in Cameroon.

I am sorry for Super Eagles. There’s a lot to improve on in that team if we have to in Qatar. Goalkeeping department is very weak. Super Eagles needed a solid leadership.

I won’t be surprised if recycling of the players continued in the Super Eagles. I will not be surprised to see Shehu, Akpeyi, John Noble and Ighalo names on the list in March against Ghana.

It is getting to a stage where by Nigeria will just make it to a tournament and scratch out unexpectedly.

We saw it under Oga Rohr and now coach Eguavoen. NFF members are not good enough to be there and they will continue messing things up for the Super Eagles players and all the national teams of Nigeria. Shall we continue folding our arms?. Fingers crossed. God bless Nigeria!!!
