Chukwueze troubled the Sassuolo defense with his pace and direct running throughout the contest before being substituted in the 85th minute for Hutchinson as Milan pushed for a late winner.
Following a scoreless first half, which saw Milan forced into an early tactical change when Koni De Winter replaced the injured Matteo Gabbia, the match ignited shortly after the interval.
Midfielder Adrien Rabiot broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 63rd minute, finishing sharply after being set up by substitute Luka Modrić.
However, Milan’s lead lasted only four minutes.
