Serie A Clubs Queuing Up To Sign Bassey

There are growing interest for Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey as Serie A clubs are queuing up for his signature.

The Nigerian international, who can play either left-back or centre-half, as emerged as one of the brightest talents in Europe after a stellar season with Rangers.

Despite being contracted for another two years, speculation is rife that Aston Villa – under the stewardship of ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard – will table a bid, and now the Scottish Cup winners may need to be braced for offers from the Italian top flight.

However, former Rangers star, Sergio Porrini in an interview with Daily Record stated that lot of teams are willing to sign him this summer.

“I am not surprised that Aston Villa and other top clubs are looking at him,” Porrini said.

“I know there has been Serie A interest and a lot of teams will be wanting to sign him this summer.

“Any club who has the budget will be trying to get him because he is a top, young defender who will only get better. The good thing for Rangers is that he is still under contract and if they are to sell him they will get a lot more money for him.

“I have been really impressed with Bassey. He has been really impressive this season.

“He caught my eye especially in the big European games and for me he was as good as anyone in the Europa Cup final.

“He is quick, physically strong and very committed. For me he is a real defender.

“You have a defender who is very good on the ball and the other is more like Giorgio Chiellini who is very strong but also has the quality to play. I think Bassey falls into that latter category.”

Napoli needs to sign him so he can pair Koulibaly as the left sided center back. That will be a monster defence..

Now that’s more like it. Instead of going to a middle table English side struggling between midtable and relegation, he should get Italian Serie A experience. After a stint in Italy, his next transfer would be to a big club. Or he can lose himself in midtable obscurity with West Ham, Aston Villa, etc. where injury and loss of form could cap his progression. It’s all about good career planning.

He is the product of the wrongly fired coach, Oga Rohr. If it wasn’t him, Scotland would have used the young Bassey against Ukraine last week.

    • @ Edo man please check the records properly…….Rhor was forced to invite bassey because of the large outcry that trailed his continuous omission from the national team……Rhor simply invited him, kept on the bench like he always did to many young players coming up then…… Forcing many to think those players where not good enough for the national team……Rhor kept on sticking to his “trusted soldiers” thereby stalling our national team growth……Eguavoen gave bassey his debut please check well.

    • @Edoman firstly Bassey is not eligible for Scotland it was either Italy, England or Nigeria, Thank God he chose Naija… Thirdly if Rohr was still in charge Bassey would be filing out for with England or Italy now after his stand out season.. Eguavoen made a mistake not capping Bassey in AFCON as i cried out so vehemently if you remember. He however smartly redeemed himself and capped Bassey 2 times against GHANA thus teing him down to Nigeria. As Fifa rules stipulate a Player is only fully fledged and tied to a country after 3 Full internationals caps. the Measly 45 mins Rohr Gave Bassey against CAR and never looking his way again was not enough to tie him to Nigeria.

SHUP UP!!!!! @AKP and UGO IWUNZE and try to UNDERSTAND the POINT @EDO MAN is making…

Who talk him into coming to PLAY for his FATHER LAND?

Who gave him his FIRST CALL UP?

BASSEY would have been CAPPED by ITALY or ENGLAND so GENERAL had to make that SMART MOVE before he was SACKED which now OPENED the DOOR for all the GAME TIME HE IS HAVING

Please we all should be giving GENERAL ROAH some CREDIT and stop DISCREDITING him at the slitest opportunity..

    • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

And so it doesn’t matter whether GENERAL ROAH was FORCED to INVITE him.

The POINT is GENERAL ROAH TALKED him into ABANDONING WORLD FOOTBALL POWER HOUSE like ITALY and ENGLAND..

Which is obviously something good to PRAISE and CREDIT ROAH for
