Serie A: Ebuehi Helps Venezia Draw Against Juve, Halt Losing Streak

Tyronne Ebuehi featured for struggling Venezia who held Juventus to a 1-1 home draw on Saturday.

The Super Eagles right-back was replaced on 79 minutes in the game which was his 10th in the league.

Going into the fixture against Juventus, Venezia had lost their last three games.

The Bianconeri missed Federico Chiesa, Dejan Kulusevski, Weston McKennie, Danilo and Aaron Ramsey, while Arthur was dropped after turning up late to training.

For Venezia, they had to do without their injured Nigerian striker David Okereke,
There was immediately bad news for Max Allegri, as Paulo Dybala limped off within 12 minutes with a right knee problem

Juve broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when Luca Pellegrini whipped a low cross from the left and Alvaro Morata flicked it in off the outside of the boot at the near post from five yards.

Venezia were more attacking after the break and were rewarded in the 55th minute through Mattia Aramu with a perfectly-struck left-foot curler from the D that bent around the goalkeeper’s fingertips into the far bottom corner.

Morata had penalty appeals waved away for a clumsy Ebuehi challenge, while Allegri replaced substitute Kaio Jorge as part of a triple change.

The result leaves Juve in sixth place on 28 points, 10 points behind leaders AC Milan.

For Venezia, they are in 16th position on 16 points and are four points above relegation spot.

God help us at least to start doing the right thing in this country. Imagine Ebuehi playing his 10th league game in Italian league as a defender yet he has not been invited to at least sit on the bench and under study . We keep inviting players in the lowest league to man our defense.

  • Im not sure this guy is in the plans of the coach. So he can be scoring from his right back position in every game and still not be recognized by the coach.

One of the only calm and attacking right back we have. Maybe they need him to bribe his way b4 extending invitations to him

  • Tyrone Ebuehi: having last featured for Nigeria as right fullback against Lesotho 30th of March this year, the slim-built defender has been overlooked since then. Missing 10 Super Eagles games since that time and invited, only to be benched in September against Liberia, Ebuehi is fast fading from Super Eagles view.

The Holland born wingback will often be invited by Rohr only to be benched severally. Between September 2020 and March 2021, Ebuehi was invited 7 times only to be benched 5 of those times.

To be honest, I don’t understand it.

After going to town to convince Ebuehi to pick Nigeria ahead of Holland, Rohr now seems to have picked other fullbacks ahead of Ebuehi.

Collins, Awaziem, Sanusi, Akpoguma, Aina have all helped root Ebuehi firmly to the Super Eagles bench of late while Victor Moses and Brian Idowu relegated him to a bit-part role at the 2018 World Cup.

In truth, the problem Ebuehi had was the long term injury he copped shortly after the 2018 World Cup. In his absence, other wingbacks stepped up the plate for Nigeria.

But, I still feel Rohr should be finding a way to integrate Ebuehi into the Super Eagles at this present time. When you add Shehu Abdullahi to the mix, there are a whole 6 fullbacks ahead of him in the Super Eagles making his short term chances rather slim indeed.

But should Rohr elect to hand him a call up ahead any of the other options, I think he has earned it having featured no less that 10 games in the Italy Serie A this season.

Most fans wouldn’t bat an eyelid if Shehu Abdullahi or Jamilu Collins is jettisoned to make way for Ebuehi.

    Will that happen, highly unlikely?

Ebuehi will just have to keep fit, continue improving and then bide his time. He should get a look-in after the Afcon.

Deo, as you said, all Ebuehi can do is keep fit and keep improving.
He had a good game today. He was given a torrid time by Pellegrini, the Juve left back. And on one occasion, Pellegrini dazzled Ebuehi with some stepovers, delivered a cross into the box, and Morata converted to put Juve ahead.
Having said that, Ebuehi managed to keep his head above water for most of the game.
    His defending was quite good.
I actually believe Ebuehi could make a decent center back, if given the chance.
If he can stay in the Venezia starting eleven for a while, perhaps Rohr will be inclined to call him up again.

  • Ebuehi and Aina are the 2 natural right backs SE have right now…… Awaziem Akpoguma Shehu are not natural right backs…… Ebuehi and Aina play in the SerieA one of the toughest leagues in the world but come back to SE and sit on the bench for Awaziem (Turkish league) and Shehu(Cyprus league)……. Truely club form and pedigree has nothing to do with national team performance in this part of the world.
