Serie A: Osimhen Nets Brace As Napoli Thrash Sampdoria 4-0 To Reclaim Top Spot

Victor Osimhen scored two goals as Napoli maintained their perfect start to this season’s Serie A with a 4-0 win away to Sampdoria on Thursday, Completesports.com reports.

Osimhen has now scored three goals in his last two games in the Italian top-flight.

Also, he has netted five goals in his last three games in all competitions.
Napoli were the only side with a 100 per cent record after four rounds and needed a win against Sampdoria to retain top spot.

They usurp Inter Milan in top spot and are now on 15 points just two points above the Serie A champions.

Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 10th minute as he came sliding onto a Lorenzo Insigne cross at the back post.

Osimhen thought he had made it 2-0 moments later, but was clearly offside before lobbing Sampdoria keeper Emil Audero.

In the 39th minute Napoli doubled their lead thanks to Fabian Ruiz who shot into the near bottom corner from outside the penalty area.

Osimhen got his second and Napoli’s third as he hammered home eight yards a low cross from Hirving Lozano.

Napoli got their fourth goal through Piotr Zielinski who finished off an assist from Lozano.

Sampdoria had the ball in the net on 73 minutes with Candreva, but the goal was disallowed because Caputo was offside in the build-up before his effort was cleared off the line by Kalidou Koulibaly.

There could’ve been more for Napoli but Audero got down for a one-handed save on Adam Ounas.

And in another Serie A fixture, Ola Aina was in action for Torino in their 1-1 home draw against Lazio.

Aina who was in the starting eleven was later replaced in the 62nd minute.

The draw saw Torino occupy 10th position on seven points in the league table.

Make we no lie, baba no too good today, but imagine scoring two goals when you are having a bad day, ah, e don be for Cagliari, e don done for serie a

    • Even against Iheanacho’s Leicester in the Europa league, Osimhen was profligate in the first half. He only found his range as the match wore on.

He is getting the goals but he is missing guilt edge chances as well.

With more practice and application, he should reduce his wastefulness.

And then the goals should flood in more……

      • MAJOR FLEX 3 years ago

Indeed, but he was not always like this in charleroi and lille, he hardly missed chances,he was clinical with the few chances he got, this days, he shoots casually, or maybe its the pressure, but i am sure he will get better, with spaletti

Congratulations osimihen. The new lukaku according to Zola a world acclaimed footballer. He is strong, fast, mobile, intelligent, decisive, courageous, selfless and humble. More goals are coming from this world class footballer.

  • The best striker in Africa presently arguably. Wishing him the best this season.

  • Napoli might just click this season……they play a very compact and confident passing kind of game…..they also keep osimhen in their attack as a hindrance to any team that would want to attack them because his pace can be devastating in a counter attack…… Osimhen will score alot of goals this season but he will not play a very attractive football,he will also not stress himself much because Napoli seems to be more complete in midfield this season……..I only feel for their coach in January when the Afcon will be played because he is benefiting from African players in his team…… Senegal Nigeria Algeria……I wish osimhen all the best.

    • And cameroun anguissa, a very good midfielder since his time with Villarreal, robust, calculating and add to misplace pass, he remember me of mikel.

And Cameroon (Anguisa), all these African player are regular and vital to their great performance this season, I truly feel for them come January

Congratulations to you Osimehn! But you could have done better. You could have gone one or two better!

Well, I am very happy for one thing, Osimehn is not yet a completely refined product and he is getting on the headlines what will now happen when he becomes better and best as a striker guys?

That guy has it in him and I believe he will surely get better with his finishing end product much more.

I foresee Tammy biting his fingers for not taking the bold step to play for Nigeria in years to come…. Former Swansea coach Paul Clement pressurized him…. anyways, it is now a bygone as Nigeria has completely nothing to loose with his decision to play for England…

  • I wonder what we expect from this boy. Is it to score goals or to entertain the crowd. Yes he misses some opportunities in games but which striker in the world doesn’t. He is still very young, learning and improving everyday. The most important thing is that he is scoring goals for fun now. We should cut him some slack and enjoy his progress and goals. He will surely improve

Big Vic Osimhen at the double. The guy is a force of nature.
I also wish to thank broda Insigne for finally doing the right thing today. Insigne was constantly looking to pass the ball, looking for Osimhen, looking for other team mates. He assisted Osimhen’s first goal, and got other assists as well. This is how to play football. Please keep it up, Insigne.

    • I actually noticed that too… That Insigne is class sha! His delightful cross was just begging for the Midas touch that Osihmen duly provided.

His pull back for the second goal was simply and utterly brilliant.

If that guy ditches the cloak of selfishness in favour of the gracious garment he wore today, his pristine passes will be key to unlocking defences.

And we know he has it in him. He is top quality.

Osihmen will benefit immensely from such delightful deliveries which should catapult Napoli to far greater heights this season.

  • Guys watch out also for Akinkunmi Amao.. He’s developing Gradually and becoming influential at his club hammarby

Is anyone of his parent white? If no,then the possibility of him playing under GR is slim I’m afraid.alternatively, he should move to Germany or English championship, then he may get a look in

Everyone should not just be thrust into the Super Eagles. This guy is 19, he could still play the U-20s and/or U-23s pending when he’s integrated into the SE.

All people keep saying Insigne or Lazano not passing to Osimhen. These guys have been assisting him for the past couple of games. Many times when he gets the ball he misses, he had a lot of chances during the europa league game against leicester.

The answer to the problem was just passing the ball to Osimehn and being creative, that’s how they were doing well towards the end of the last season. Osimhen is hungry, energetic, always making runs. This guy is borderline offsides, so he is always ready. When he gets the ball or when a play is made for him such as long ball, he is gonna give you a goal.

He had a tough start to the season with the red card, but now has 4 goals since. Better start than last season, doing well later in the year. This year he has to hit more than 13 goals, right now he has 3 in serie a. I do want to see him with at least 1 hat trick. Right now this team is number 1, I hope they keep it this way.

    • @Shuma, I don’t know about other matches but against Leicester City, Insigne was selfish hence the reason he was rightly substituted.

  • Guys watch out also for Destiny Udogie.. He’s plays as a left back for Udinese. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny_Udogie. GR the Nigerian manager should invite him, though his a Nigerian Italian the Nff should look at helping to switch his nationality

      Hey Pompei,

I saw this as well, and I was marvelled many people are yet to talk about it.

      I hope this is valid.
