Marco Silva admits Everton’s inability to find the back of the net against Aston Villa is a concern as they extended their record to one goal in three matches.
The Toffees had the chance to go top of the Premier League with a win over the Villans on Friday evening but came up short as the home side ran out 2-0 winners.
Wesley and Anwar El Ghazi were on target for Villa but it could have been a very different story had Everton taken their chances.
The Merseysiders passed up some great opportunities in the second half with Alex Iwobi hitting the post and Dominic Calvert-Lewin having his effort cleared off the line.
However, the most egregious miss came from Theo Walcott late on, the ex-Arsenal man failing to convert from close range when Everton were chasing the game.
It was the second time this season Silva’s men had drawn a blank having been held to a goalless draw on the opening weekend of the season by Crystal Palace.
They also struggled to take their chances in the 1-0 win over Watford at home and Silva says his team need to sharpen up in front of goal. “In my opinion we should achieve more in this game.
The most difficult thing is to create and when you do you have to put the ball in the net,” said Silva.
“It is concerning about the goals we didn’t score and of course we should score more.
Against Palace, we created lots of chances to score and didn’t and again today.”
Silva has kept faith with the front four who performed well in the back half of last season thus far with Calvert-Lewin leading the line, ahead of Richarlison, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
However, with only Bernard having scored out of that quartet, Silva could look to make changes for Everton’s next league match, at home to Wolves next Sunday.
The Goodison Park outfit spent big to bring in Moise Kean and Iwobi during the summer and both men gave a good account of themselves when being introduced in the second half on Friday.
A bad night for Everton was made worse by an injury to fellow summer arrival Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
The 23-year-old midfielder was expected to keep his place in the Everton team for the clash at Villa having been handed his first start in the win over Watford.
However, he was replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin in the starting line-up and Everton later confirmed he had suffered a “significant” muscle injury.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
