Everton boss Marco Silva has backed Richarlison to improve further after his double in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Wolves. The Brazilian opened the scoring after just five minutes at Goodison Park following a Wolves defensive mix-up between Conor Coady and Rui Patricio.
Wolves levelled matters through Romain Saiss but Everton reclaimed the lead soon after as Alex Iwobi, one of Silva’s summer additions, headed home Gylfi Sigurdsson’s superb cross.
Everton held a 2-1 lead at the break but the visitors thought they had earned a point when Raul Jimenez equalised on 78 minutes, only for Richarlison to head home a winner soon after.
Silva heaped the praise on the 22-year-old after the match but he believes there is still much more to come from Richarlison. “Richarlison is the type of player that needs good performances and if possible to win more confidence in the way he likes to play,” Silva said. “Last season, he did all the pre-season for us. This season, he did Copa America and after was on holiday and started the first game against Crystal Palace with 13 days working with us. “He scored two really important goals for us. He will keep improving, for sure. “We are talking about a fantastic football player and a fantastic boy. He is the spirit inside our dressing room.”
Everton go into the international break with seven points from four games so far and in sixth spot in the Premier League table, level on points with Crystal Palace in fourth and five adrift of pacesetters Liverpool.
The Merseyside outfit return to action on September 15 with a trip to Bournemouth and Silva will be hoping Richarlison comes through the international break unscathed.
The Everton forward is one of four Premier League players included in coach Tite’s 23-man Brazil squad for friendly fixtures against Colombia and Peru, on September 6 and 10 respectively.
Richarlison has been capped 13 times by the Selecao and has six international goals to his name – including a strike in the 2019 Copa American final win over Peru earlier this summer.
The former Watford star managed 14 goals in 38 appearances for Everton in all competitions last season and has three in five games so far this term, having opened his account for the campaign in the 4-2 win at Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
