The Italian star has not featured in competitive action since his thrilling four-set victory over Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final back in July.

A persistent right knee issue subsequently forced him to miss the North American hard-court swing, including the US Open, as well as his defense of the China Open title in Beijing.
Confirming his latest withdrawal via social media, Sinner expressed his disappointment to fans in China.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year as I had hoped,” Sinner wrote.
“I always enjoy playing in front of the Shanghai fans and I’m very sorry that I won’t be able to do so next week. Thank you for all your support. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next year!”

Sinner’s continued absence means he will miss the entirety of the lucrative Asian swing.
Medical staff are exercising extreme caution to ensure his knee is fully healed before making a competitive return, with potential targets for his comeback later in the autumn indoor season.
