Sports Minister Dare Hints At Rohr Sack

Sports Minister Dare Hints At Rohr Sack

Minister for Youth and Sport Sunday Dare has hinted that Gernot Rohr could be relieved of his position as Super Eagles head coach, Completesports.com reports.

The Eagles could only record two points out of a possible six in the double-header against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

On matchday three the Eagles surrendered a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 against the Leone Stars in Benin on Friday.

And in Tuesday’s return-leg in Freetown both teams settled for a 0-0 draw.

The outcome of the games saw Rohr come under heavy criticism from football fans.

And reacting to the results, Dare questioned Rohr’s competence while stating something will be done about his position as Eagles coach.

He wrote on his verified Twitter handle:”The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls to question the suitability and competences of Technical Adviser, Rohr. Nigerian football deserves better. The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers.”

The Eagles will be in action again in March 2021 when they will be guests to Benin Republic in continuation of the qualifiers.

They will round off the qualifiers with a home tie against Lesotho.

Rohr is incompetent and inept .

All Nigerians, both at home and abroad alike should join the Honorable Minister of sport, to ensuring this no-good, junkie and fake coach is sent packing back to where he came from. Enough of his stupidity and inapt management style of our National Super Eagle. I personally regret not joining folks like ‘forward-looking’ Omo9Nj earlier. Accept my apology Omo9Nj and many others who foresaw the failings of this fake coach. SEND ROHR BACK HOME. No one hates him. But we don’t like his incompetence.

      • U can only sack the coach if he does not achieve the set target. When was the last time eagles scored 4 goals in 1st half. Maybe 16 years ago . The stength of the team should be built on. The various factors that opens up the team to concede 4 goals should be looked into. The opponent were hard on the field. They are never tired like ur boys that arrived 2 days to the game.the coach using set of new boy in the defence was not faulted. Injury to 2 key players. And some eminent players on the field lose or playing the ball to their opponent actually led to the team conceding the 4 goals. Sport minister hmmm

Very unprofessional statement.. Dare you have been somewhat doing good please respect yourself

Because left to us, we’re still wondering why that venue was picked amongst a host of other miscellaneous that contributed to our poor outings.

#GernotRohrMustGo. Friends, it’s time for Rohr to go. When a coach’s performance is on decline, he quits. Imagine Nigeria, a giant of Africa playing four consecutive games without winning any of them. This is terrible. I can bet you, Nigeria will drop down to No. 40 in the next FIFA ranking. It’s time for him to go.

I don’t know why the play that match in Benin, why should the Eagle playing there match diffferent  stadium, if the Eagle play all there Matches in one stadium it will be the best

    • Presh 3 years ago

Thank You. You are a true sports man.

    • it is shameful that Nigeria does not have a standard, world-class match venue for international games. The best stadium in Nigeria now is at Uyo. Why are the National team (Super Eagles matches) moved around to satisfy or appease some politicians, like playing games in Asaba, Benin City, etc. That smirks of inconsistency. The Eagles home matches should be played in Uyo since the Abuja national stadium is not in a good condition. Nigeria should get its act right as this also contributes to the inconsistent performance of the team due to lack of a permanent home base. Coach Rohr has his flaws, but I believe he has done well and should be allowed to see out his current contract.

  • Omo9ja 3 years ago

That is it. I love Mr. Gernot Rohr as a person and I appreciate his effort but his efforts wasn’t enough for Nigeria.

It is very sad to hear this but if we want the very best for the Super Eagles, we should let go of Oga Rohr.

The first leg of the match says a lot about the gaffer while the second leg wasn’t impressive.

The free town stadium wasn’t ok but that is not an excuse. What did the coach do in Benin when Eagles were lead?

    Wrong tactics and converting players.

Oga Rohr have the tools but he doesn’t know how to using the tools.

However, coach Rohr fans also tired of this situation we are and they want the best Eagles.

If that is the case, hmm. Fellow Nigerians, let’s wish Oga Rohr the best and move on.

    Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • na you know if they like they sack him is not my father or relative but change your mind set it will help you as a human ok.But don’t forget were he took the team from let them sack him bring in your messiah ok

    • When a sitting sports minister descend so low and get himself twitting on sacking of a coach under one of the parastatal under his supervision, it shows either the honorable minister has lost focus, is jobless or out of tune with realities of modern football. For crying out loud, Germany got annihilated 6-0 and the German sport minister never came out for their coach neck as did uncle Dare.

Sentiments aside, what makes Nigerians think that they only have to turn up and win matches .Because you are super Eagles? Really?. Anybody that tow that line of thought is really out of tune with realities of African and world football. The gap between the so called big teams and small teams have really narrowed, Technically and tactically, all the teams have improved a lot. You only need to take a look at the results across africa to buttress my point.Senegal needed a penalty to beat Guinea Bissau 2-1 in Dakar  and only won 1-0 in Bissau through the skin of their teeth. Ivory Coast also needed a last gasp penalty to beat Madagascar 2-1 in Abidjan and were held to 1-1 draw in Madagascar. Comoros island beat Kenya 2-1and are actually topping the group. South Sudan beat Uganda 1-0. Ghana lost 1-0 to Sudan , while South Africa have to work off their socks before they beat Soa Tome 4-2 and 1-0 . Tunisia beat Tanzania 1-0 with a last grasp goal..

On the world scene, you saw Scotland qualifying for the Euros, same for Wales, Northern island were just unlucky not to go through. Faro islands have been punching above their weight while Finland beat France 2-0 in Paris. So their are no minnows in Football any more.

Instead of the Honorable minister to drag his high office into this, he should rather concern himself with policies failures. How come our league is now comatose , what has happened to the conveyor belt that produced world class players for us in the past? The welfare and logistic of all the national teams, grassroots development etc.

The coach should not be made the scapegoat. The issues are much deeper .What did the Minister did when the team was taken to Benin? Did he not see that the stadium was not suitable for our players.? Why is the super Eagles of Nigeria not having a home like most  national teams? Why did he, Pinnick and the deputy governor went to train with the boys and distracting them? Was it a political circus? What did he do when  an obviously qualified Ammunike was sacrificed for a relatively inexperienced Yobo , leaving our technical bench very weak?

To be fair to the coach. He made statements that went unnoticed by Nigerian.First, he complained about the Benin stadium turf but he was not assertive enough like westerhof.Secondly, he said some of the invited players are not mentally prepared yet for international football( suggesting that he did not invite those players or they were imposed on him.) When is it in the place of an NFF president to be scouting for players like we saw in the Abraham and Eze case.? And who have noticed that ever since the coach signed a new contract that took away his powers to solely invite players that the Eagles have stated faltering? Akpoguma isn’t from Delta state just like Pinnick, could well be that his dad and Pinnick are childhood friends or school mates, I leave you to do the maths.

Of course that does not mean that the coach is blameless. His inputs must count in the choice of match venue for his team.He must fine a spine for his team and a very very strong bench to step in should there be an injury. He may not have the swagger of a young coach, but he can improve on his looks on the touch line.

So he should be left alone to run down his contract. He will qualify us for both events. We only got a rude awakening that we must prepare well for every match and not count our chicken before they are hatched .

sack Rohr now. This Nigerian Honorable Minister is a “God sent” individual at this time of the national embarrassment like this. He represents the values we all shared as a footballing Nation. Like our friend Omo9Nja has always advocated here, if enough of us had joined him earlier to ensuring Rohr goes away, we would never had found ourselves in this threshold of not qualifying for Cameroon next year. Who among you at this moment, will give 100% assurance that Nigeria will beat Benin republic at home next year especially if the able minister allows Rohr to stay? I heard a rumor that some of the Nigerian players confronted Rohr for a valid explanations as to why he exchanged some players at a time he did. Kudos to the present Minister of sport of Nigeria. If only the NFF heard me when l did say that the idea of playing the match in Benin City was shortsighted and wrong. If that match had been played in UYO, those wonderful GOALS the boys scored all within 30 minutes, would have stayed and Nigeria would have, perhaps, qualified for Cameroon easily next year. Sack Rohr now.

          • Oakfield 3 years ago

Shebi na una jazz for edo cauze him to fall hand last week? You wont shut your trap now! If that match was played in uyo, do you think we would hve drawn. You better sack the witches and wizards in edo before u think of sacking rohr. Anuoffia.

          • Dr Drey 3 years ago

You and who are on the threshold of not qualifying for Cameroon….?
We are comfortably topping our group with 8 points from a possible 12 with 2 games to spare. So everyone else in the group will win their next 2 matches except Nigeria….? LMAO. Sierra Leone that has played 2 home games and won non will go and beat Lesotho away and win Benin at home on a pitch where they couldn’t get a shot on goal in 90mins against us…? You think they can replicate the 4 goals they scored against any team that isn’t complacent like we were simply because we thought the game had ended in the 30th minute…??? You also think Lesotho will win at home vs SL and come and beat Nigeria at home too….?? LMAO. And we have become so useless that we will lose to Benin away and come home to lose to Lesotho too… because Rohr who has never lost any qualifier (but one) has become brain dead and all SE players become crippled…?

My brother we have never been as comfortable in an AFCON
qualifying group since 2010 to 2016 as we are now…..even with 2 games to spare. Cynicism is depriving you of the perception of reality my brother.

        • Omo9ja 3 years ago

Sorry for my mistakes up there.

@Toni, stop giving us excuses. I am tired of that please.

Did the gaffer complain when inspecting the stadium before the match? He saw the conditions of the stadium and he went straight ahead to play the match on that pitch like that?

Let’s call a spade a spade, Leone star was a better team in both encounters period.

I don’t think its all about we have a big team here but small team that ranked 120 in the world carried the day.

Leone star had a game plan against the Super and they got their tactics perfectly right.

No cohesion in the team. No fighting spirit and never say die Nigerian spirit in Oga
Rohr Super Eagles. Wrong tactics and Eagles wasn’t rootless enough as a team. Who’s fault? Benin stadium or Mr. GR?

Don’t tell me that Oga had no right to turned down the Benni stadium before they confirmed the venue for the encounter.

The Benin pitch wasn’t good but Eagles scored good unique four goals on that pitch?

My advise to Nigerians and NFF. Instead of retaining Oga Rohr as the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria again, it will be better to let him go and then, give the opportunity to Amunike, Egbo, Enyeama, Ikeme, Peter Rufai and Ike Shorunmu.

Let’s do things differently this time around NFF.

If they don’t perform well, we should come out and them face to face they have to sit tight otherwise, Nigerians won’t be happy with them.

Nonetheless, respect is a reciprocal and charity begins at home. NFF needs to respect our ex players and the local coach so that they can work collectively to make our darling Super Eagles great again.

If NFF can treat them well like foriegn managers, I’m pretty sure that they will achieve more thank Oga within 2 to 3 years.

It took late Keshi less than 2 years to win Afcon with our home based players.

I am hugging everyone of us to support the move so that we can have a solid, fantastic and energetic team in less than 2 years.

Many Oga Rohr fans won’t be happy for what I just said but do we have a choice?

Don’t worry about the foriegn players, the new managers will take care of them. Oga Rohr have a fantastic team but he can’t build us a team bn in charge of the team almost 4 to 5 years now.

The sports minister have spoken and we need to respect his decision.

Let’s think about it my people. Remember, it’s not about white coach but what you can do uniquely as a coach to win trophies. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

          • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha…..fire don burn your mouth again this time around….LMAO. ALL our opponents have always been better than us in your eyes….funny enough those better opponents always end up crashing out while we end up progressing ahead of them….LMAO. Before it was Cameroon that was better, then Algeria, then South Africa, then Guinea and Madagascar, now it is Sierra leone. SL got their tactics right but were 4 goals down in 30 mins without giving the ball cheaply away to us, but 3 of their own 4 goals was as a result of our players giving the ball away senselessly. So why didnt they get any shot at goal in their home when we beat them on their millet farm….? What happened to their master class tactics. So if Oga rohr had turned down the stadium in Benin you would have offered your pitch in Agege and Ajegunle to the NFF to play the match. You also would have paid the hotel bills of the SE and the visiting team too…?LMAO. NFF treated Siasia and Oliseh the same way they are treating Rohr and it ended in tears. Rohr a foreigner is surviving and meeting targets given to him by his employer under the same environment your local guadiolas failed woefully….not even scaling their 1st hurdle of qualifying for ordinary AFCON. Despite drawing L twice we are still on top of the group….in the days of the guadiolas 2 draws at this stage would have dumped us in 3rd place or 4th place and then we will be praying for Brazil to beat Wes Brom and for LA Lakers to beat Bafana Bafana so that the SE can qualify as best loosers….LMAO. Once again fire don burn your mouth again this time around on this one. The team that “got tactics right” is no 3 in the group with 3 points and very remote chance of even qualify for AFCON as 2nd placed team. The team you are rubbishing is already 1 leg in Cameroon with 2 games to go…..LMAO

      • @Toni,thumbs up my man, I have been reading lots of comments here since Friday that we played the first leg, and I can’t but imagine the kind of brain some people got, little wonder why Nigeria is still crawling, it’s due to kind of mindset from some people here.

Imagine the so called sport minister uttering nonsense, what has he achieved as a minister for 2yrs? He is only galivating around giving out 50k to some retired ex international and their families. As a minister, under you, Nigeria cannot boast of atleast 2 world class stadium, no league, no Nigeria representative in any of athletics games, eg diamond league, for 2yrs, even the country only managed to send 5 table tennis player to Africa tournament, out of possible 15, and you are here spewing rubbish on a coach.

Does Mr minister query caf for approving that primary school pitch they called stadium in maseru that was used for the match?

What gave Dare the impetus that only Nigeria must win all the time? Those other countries are not human beings abi? Germany crashed out at the group stage, of the world cup with all their stars, they still retain leow, and just yesterday they were wiped 6-0 by Spain, same Spain that were held goalless by Gybrailtar last year, such is the dynamism of football.

Mr Dare, do the needful in your ministry and stop playing politics, you are a failure, you should resign

      • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Toni… I beg to disagree. Gernot Rohr has not done anything spectacular since assuming the coaching job. I believe in developing our own. We have enough capable Nigerians who can get 8points from 4matches like Gernot Rohr has done… no indegenous coach has been tolerated with a poor run of results like Gernot Rohr has had… Nigeria is a football giant in Africa and our turn of results vis-a-vis our players pool is very alarming… there is nothing to celebrate about 8points in 4games in a group consisting of Lesotho, Benin Republic and Sierra Leone… period! No Nigerian coach dead or alive has ever been paid what Rohr is enjoying… we tried with Berti Voghts, we failed… we tried with Thijs Libregts, we failed… we tried with Bora Milutonovic, we failed… we tried with Lars Lagerback, we failed… infact he ran to his country after the world cup and did not even return back to Nigeria. Let us use our own… if they fail, we will try another indegenous coach… I will never applaud any foreign coach at he helms of affairs with Super Eagles… we tolerate them but can never tolerate our own… Nigeria has lost its footballing identity with all these crappy foreign rigid pattern that only makes us ordinary. We have players who have experienced all in football and have bagged the prestigious UEFA A License coaching certificate… let us give them a chance. Pair Amuneke/Manu let us swim in mud, bathe in rain and enjoy sunshine with them… no be everybody go collect bribe if you pay him well. Those supporting Rohr are as is with most black people still suffering from slavish inferiority complex… period! If foreigner is astutely good in tactics as evidenced from play, swing in tide of game and results, then you can give such one a chance… not a coach who is already spent and doing unmeritted pension work!

      • Kenny 3 years ago

Brotherly the truth is possibly some of you don’t understand what we are saying is that he has not changed this team to what we expect, he has only helped us get quality players but to give us a team has been a problem for this old man, and we all have kept faith all the while saying in a matter of time, but we are seeing that infact what he did in the beginning was better than what he is doing now. What that mean is he doesn’t have the technicality or tactics. i mean for good five years and rather than the team getting better they seems going down meaning he has nothing to give again. The issue is not with the players, these crop of players are individual good but putting them as a team is the problem. He does not have it. I suspect that this man is infact using some players so has to sell them well.

If we want good for this nation let this guy go and get a technically sound coach whether local or foreign the word is a technically sound coach.

Believe me if you give amunike this kind of long period he would not just have a team but he would give us a pattern, Go and watch all his matches as a coach you will know this one knows what he is doing.

That said we should bring in a local or foreign coach that is sound.

        • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

The team is going down in what sense?? That we’re topping our qualifying group means the team is going down?? Lmao!! Which tournament have they played since 2019 that made the team go down?? Ok let’s look at this way. Since after the AFCON we played Ukraine, Brazil, Benin. Lesotho, Algeria. Tunisia, Sierra Leone twice. 1 loss, 5 draws, 2 wins over the last one year. In those games we played two top 20 teams to encouraging draws, lost to a top African opponent and African champions, let’s say Benin republic, Lesotho and Sierra Leone are in the same level. We won two and draw two didn’t lose to any of them. I don’t how the team is going down if they’re still on top of their group and on course to qualify for another major tournament. For me this team can only be judged by their performance at the AFCON proper. All this agitations of sacking because he’s topping a qualifying group are baseless.

        • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Amunike that couldn’t qualify the U20 to ordinary AFCON. Success at youth level never translate to success at senior level. Ask Manu Garba. What did he do when promoted to the U20? Even the U17 given to him again falters in the round of 16 at the last WorldCup. Ask Siasia with all his achievements with our youth teams he still fail to qualify the SuperEagles for the AFCON twice with Amunike beside him we couldn’t score more than one goal over two legs against Egypt. Even though the second one was a major disaster from the African Guardiola. It’s always easy to sit on our coach to dish out names. Now a lot of quality players are coming into the SuperEagles due to the gaffers persuasion. It’s not easy to call players from different parts of Europe and assemble them for only two days then expect them to be flawless. Whereby the deputy governor, minister of sports, and NFF chairman turned it into a jamboree by training with the team on the eve of a very important match. If they have to sack Rohr. All those people too should be relieved of their duty afterwards.

      • pompei 3 years ago

Just saw this. Nice job, Toni. Sacking Rohr at this time in the midst of all the serious underlying issues is a stop gap measure that will leave us worse off.

In Nigeria everybody wants to be coach

  • Coache 3 years ago

Rohr is not a good coach as the Progressives have been saying for years. He has a typical defeatist mentality…Sierra Leone is a difficult team (for crying out loud). What will he say about Spain, Senegal, France etc. He kept the 2 DM static, as far back as 1993/94, football lovers in Nigeria knew that whenever Iroha overlaps, Amuneke tracks back to cover up and sometimes Oliseh. Rohr had two stagnant DM (based on Rohr’s instruction) and never asked them to cover up or assist Akpoguma/Zaidu briefly before Iwobi and Chukwueze tracks back.

This is Nigeria for crying out loud, when the team is attacking Rohr keeps 6/5 players behind without releasing/freeing either Etebo or Aribo…Rohr has to go. Can you imagine Nigeria not dominating SL with the best legs we have at the moment? He made the players to play intimidating/fearful football. Shame Rohr

    • Ya-Ya 3 years ago

Thank you for being back memories of 93/94. When Nigeria was Ranked No.5 on the FIFA ranking, we had the fastest attack in the world, all while using players that were relatively unknown globally, some of which couldn’t command starting shirts at their clubs. Westerhof had been in charge of Nigeria for about 4 years then.

Fast forward to now, 4 years into Rohr’s reign, with the best crop of players Nigeria has ever had in her history, can anyone say that man has uped our game since then? Now you read intelligent people saying that “the pitch was the problem”… Hmmm look, the pitch at the National Stadium Surulere was 20 time worse. So bad that commentaitors say it’s not even fit for horse racing. People ignore the tactical ineptitude of Rohr and his technical bench to blame the pitch and players?… What a shame!

  • Glory 3 years ago

i have always respected DARE so wont say anything yet to discredit him but will only ADVICE BIG TIME, that he is towing a very DANGEROUS LINE thinking of sacking ROHR. He should rather be thinking of supporting Rohr in all other logistics such as match venues, players bonus, etc and maybe a more experienced local coach assistant to work with Rohr. DEFINITELY NOT A SACK.

  • Oakfield 3 years ago

Csn pls, you people really need to be careful with how u interprete people’s assertions or statements. He said the needful would be done not that he shall be relieved of his duties. That needful thing could be a query issued through the nff to question his decsions (esp in our first match) or to find practical ways of ensuring that a repeat of that embarrassment we had here does not happen again. Omo9ja has already begun to rejoice bcs his brain is wrongly wired that he cannot read and comprehend simple english. Everyrhing he hears about rohr is interpreted negatively by his brain.

  • Larry 3 years ago

Based on recent performances, it is time to move on. GR does not possess the wherewithal to get the best out of current SE squad.

    Records don’t lie..

Against 83rd ranked Benin; struggled to win by 2:1

Against 137th ranked Lesotho; won comfortably away by 4:2

Against 29th ranked Algeria (SE was ranked higher before the match ); taught technical football lesson by Belmadi and lost 0:1

Against 26th ranked Tunisia; unimpressive draw 1:1

Against 120th ranked Sierra leone; New record, miracle of Benin, 4:4, 0:0

    Played 6: won 2 (83rd & 137th ranked) drawn 3 (26th and 120th ranked), lost 1 (29th ranked).

    • Oakfield 3 years ago

So after all the resesrch u did to find a justifiable for his sack, your analysis as presented by you says he lost only 1 match and that was against the highest ranked team in africa. So, What’s your point afterall?

      • Dr Drey 3 years ago

LMAO…..@ Oakfield. In his mind he as done a good analysis. Picking only 6 matches to justify the SACK of a coach whose team has just qualified for another tournament with games to spare. Pls help us ask him if his CGPA was only computed with his final semester in school….LMAO. The same hypocrites that say rankings do not matter when they want to discredit Rohr’s work in bringing us out of the pit of 70th position in ther world are now the ones quoting the rankings of teams to look for every means to create an illusion he has failed…..LMAO. Our next assignment is AFCON 2021…we are in the qualifying series already and we have 8 out of 12 points already 67%. The coach’s overall win ratio is still sitting at 56% (highest ever by any SE coach in history), but haters are here cooking up data to confuse themselves ….LMAO.
If they like they should sack him….but they should also pay up all the bonuses and allowances of the entire team they have owed since the group stages of 2019 AFCON. We dont want liars coming to tell us Rohr has never been owed a kobo even for a day….LMAO

      • Dr Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha…epp me ask am. For in mind he done do world class research with world class inferences….LMAO. Help me ask him if it was only his final semester results in school that was used in calculating his CGPA…..LMAO. ‘Sensible and smart’ people pick 6 games out of 53 to forensically look for excuses to sack a coach….LMAO

        • Oakfield 3 years ago

He’s just a block head. I wonder The kind of brains some people get. Imagine, he just wasted his precious time and carried out a research which the result favoured his target of redicule. He jsut shot himself in the foot big time. How foolish some people can be. Common sense shoud have told him that even records and statistics are still in rohrs favour.

        • Larry 3 years ago

Glad that you came, I was expecting you not your supporters. Your comment says it all..
I never knew that you regarded GR as a student and it just solved the issues I’ve been having with your submisdions on this issue. I thought you once stated that only qualified coaches not learners should be considered for SE job..
To the other folks he, the most gullible and delusional people on this forum are the ones who exploit abusive language to win argument.
Let me help your senses, GR contract got renewed for his past performances. He got rewarded for the other matches and there is no need to go back.
Someone with common sense will know that my analysis was based on the new contract. Those results are only connected to the new contract.
If GR’s employers are not happy they have a reason to be and if he gets fired today there is a genuine reason for it.
There is nothing like the time is too short, Belmadi did it with algeria. The right coach can do it with SE.!
          Good Riddance.

There is no point reading from people whose CGPA in school was computed with the scores of only one semester. No wonder their opinions are always over the bar because of the half-backed education they received.

    • so you brought out 6 games at of 53,so what is your point. Go and sit down my friend

I don’t support sacking Rohr at this point in time even tho he got his tactics wrong a few times. I feel the nations cup should be the yardstick to determine if he should stay or go. World cup qualifiers start next year and it’s going to be a busy year due to corona pushbacks. It is well.

In all sincerity and humility, I think its high time Mr G.rhor stepped down as the head coach of the SE. For crying out loud, the coach has a pool of quality players scattered all across the globe (including Nigeria) yet he dosent know when, who and how to optimally harness their potentials and properly deploy them on the field of play since during and after the 2018 world cup (Once a match starts going against his team, Mr G.R is confused without the foresight to tactically buffer the ugly trend).

He keeps inviting one quality player to the other only to abandon some of them on the bench during a match and even the ones he will use he force them to play in their less effective role on the pitch.

Nigerian fans have yearned and yelled for a drastic improvement over time, all to no avail. It is shameful.

Sir (Mr G.R),its no doubt you go for the most inform quality players per time but you don’t know how to bring out the best from them instead you would blame the weather, pitch, jet lag, young team, long balls, et al. for your tactical and technical deficiencies. Since how many years now, you can’t give us reliable and proficient back ups to your; goal keepers, attackers, defenders and midfielders.
Just imagine that Osimhen was targeted and injured in Benin city by SL and no one was equal to the task to replace him and your attack died, midfield collapsed yet no sub; even some of the defenders were outplayed, no sub.
Not as if Kelechi Iheanacho, Onuachu and Dennis arent good but wrong tactics of the coach would not deploy them well and bring out the best from them.
Mr Rhor, should I teach you that, going by the way your team plays, you needed strong, pacy, skillfull and shoot powerful attackers and mid fielders (esp. DM & CM)?I mean rugged attackers like; late Yekini, Emenike, Osimhen, et al., even your central defenders shake atimes
(Our most respected legend and coach, Amunike recommended Junior Ajayi but u bluffed it; I’m not making a case for Junior Ajayi but his videos prove amazing qualities. Rather, “you dey find already made players in Europe and still do not know how to adequately harness their abilities on the field of play”.

NFF are not also exonerated from this blame; for goodness sake why impose Mr Yobo on coach G.R? Mr Alloy Agu could not give us at least one very stable and competent goal keeper since over 4 yrs now, why not change him with Carl, Enyeama(whom both you and Mr Olise offended when he lost his mumm), et al? why play politics with pitch for crucial qualifiers Mr Amaju? (4+4 = isagoal), what about our local leagues development and other national teams (both male and female alike?)…..???

Finally, its either you sack Mr G.R or co-tie him with one or two of our most experienced and competent ex-internationals (e.g, Amunike, Manu, Egbo, et al. Mr Yobo’s office should change to something else in the team).
Note, i do not support a foreign coach at this juncture rather give us a credible, competent and correct Naija coach way know how to spot talent and harness them wella. Competent ex-internationals/legendary coaches is in vogue in modern day football (Chelsea – Frank, Man U – Solsjaer, Barca, Juve, SL, Algeria, etc). I come in peace. Shalom!!!

    Best news of the day

  • Guys make una calm down. even though we are not happy with the results from both leg of the match but that is not the end of it and such is life. Comoros is topping the group that has almighty Egypt. if life is to go the way we all planned and wished, no one will be poor and most of us for nor even dey the country again.
For me; the players are 80% to be blamed because the same players that gave up four goals under 40mins are the same players that kept clean sheet for more than 90 minutes. apparently the more reason Rohr retained 90% of the line up ( and if not for injury may be no changes could have been made ).
The coach can always have a share of the blame but the players can do better. A team without a coach can defend 4 goals for 45mins.
Trust me, if S.E wanted to win S/L, they would do that. something is wrong somewhere.

Super eagles did not win any match this year.three draws and one loss.Coach Rohr is been paid $US55,000 that is 20,983,050 in naira per month.you can’t be paid such amount of money and yet the team still lacks pattern of play.Rohr is a good and gentle man with cool demeanor.. But then his team is uninspiring, his poor selections and reading of the game leaves much to be desired of.He hasn’t done more than keshi or amodu .A coach is good as his last game. If the football authorities deems it fit to let him go,I have no issues with that..I love Rohr, but super eagles comes first.

  • I agree with Amicable that the technical team need to be beef up.Amunnike need to be brought back as the brain box of the technical bench. The main man behind the success of the late Stephen Keshi was sylvanus Okpalla.Once he wAs removed the team started faltering, Westerhof had a technical astute jo Bonfrere, Siasia had Kalika Simon.Yobo should be made a mentor or should be transferred to the u20 to work with Ladan Bosso

People should stop whining about Rohr getting fired. How many of u can keep Rohr as CEO of a company. The man is not performing, the team is not progressing, this team lacks character, zero win in 2020, we can’t continue like this, this’s a business, the super Eagles stock is  falling, we need a new CEO to restore the confidence and identity back to the team. Not just  Rohr , Musa too must be axed as the team captain is not a good general in and off the pitch, too quite and timid to lead. The last two games  has really exposed this team and the coach, We can’t continue to hustle backwards folks, time to move on, Rohr’ doesn’t have the monopoly of coaching.

Hahahahaha….any manager that takes my company from the 70th position in the world and 16th in Africa to top 30 in the world and top 3 in Africa, I will not only retain him, I will also recommend him to my friends whose companies are ailing. We didnt win any of our 4 matche sin 2020 and so….? When has 2020 become a yardstick for performance. How many companies across the world met their targets for 2020…..should we say their CEOs too should be fired. Every comppany in the world experiences period of profitability stagnation, especially when they are investing in a new technology, expanding frontiers, trying out new markets or expanding/preparing for new opportunities ahead and that has never been a reason to fire their CEOs. Even you that is talking have you met all your targets for 2020…? Has 2020 been your most productive year…Did you prosper more in 2020 than you’ve done all your life….??? If no, will that be a cogent reason to commit suicide….LMAO…?
I repeat any manager that takes my company from the 70th position in the world and 16th in Africa to top 30 in the world and top 3 in Africa, from not being able to qualifying for ordinary AFCON 3 out of 4 attempts, with all the thousands of stars we have in Europe, to qualifying with games to spare…even affording to do goals bonanza and still retaining top spot in the group, I will not only retain him, I will also recommend him to my friends whose companies are ailing. Infact I will expand my company and create a “Business Rescue” consultancy division in the company so that I can use the managers brains to make more money for the company…..Lolz

There was a time when even down till the 95min of the last match of the last matchday, we werent even going to look like qualifying, but Rohr has turned things around and we are now used to winning games and qualifying with games in hand but those with sinister motives hate that. Rohrs sin was qualifying us for tournaments too Early and meeting his targets too easily

Sacking or no sacking Rohr is no news again. If he has truly failed typing a sack letter on MS word is not such a difficult task…..lolz. Its just that they have not found any sensible reasons to do so. All they are just doing now is forensically looking for failures where there are none….LMAO

There are people actually desperately working hard to reposition themselves to begin to gain from SE once again. For at least 4 years now the current coach has successfully blocked all of the avenues they use to enrich themselves even at our team’s expense.
They have been gradually sowing tares and putting spokes into the wheels of the coach’s hardwork over the last 3 years. The sad part of all these is that well meaning fans of SE are beginning to bite into the hook set by this selfish people whose goal is to take our national team to a place where it suits them but cause pain to Nigerians.
Pls let us not fall into this trap because of lack of patience.
Rohr is on a MISSION. He is gradually building us a team that will rule Africa for years to come and possibly the world too. A
little PATIENCE and we’d get there. Rome was not built in a day. The best teams in history took years to build before success. Germany won the world cup in 2014 with Joachim low with a team built by klinsman.
A little PATIENCE with Rohr and we will enjoy our team for years to come.

  • Let him act fast. Is he suppose to write this on his personal twitter handle? I think he suppose to be minister of sports not football and he thinks he is doing his own job well, is their any minister in Buhari cabinet doing well? How come nobody is calling for the firing of Pinnick and Dare? Has Dare done anything to improve youth development and sports in Nigeria? What criteria are we using to guage weda or not Dare that judge Dare? Has he met any of these key performance indicators? Millions of youth are hungry in 9ja, what has Dare done to better their lives? Ok what about PINNICK, what has he done to better our football? Is it appointing coaches 2 weeks b4 tournaments? Has Pinnick met his own obligation to the nigerian people? Now to GR, what was the goal set for him? To win the AFCON and to get to the Semi finals of the worldcup, has he failed in meeting those goals? NO. Is there anywhere in his contract that says he can’t draw in Benin? NO, Is there anywhere in his contract that says he should invite players that u and I want? NO. If he has been given a task of winning the Afcon, he is still on track to achieving that. We are cupprently in 30+ position in FIFA ranking and a goal of reaching worldcup semi final is the task, all the teams above us should just let 9ja come and reach semi final abi? Even at that he hasn’t shied away from the task which is herculean imho. If at over 5 years of being the president of NFF, pinnick has not helped to improve our football in any noticeable way, infact our football has dropped since he took the helm as president, who should be the person being fired. If youth development and sports in the country is in comatose, should the sports minister be fired? I would personally give GR the CEO position in my company than give Dare or Pinnick as I know they would make the company even worse but with GR I am sure he will at least meet some targets. He met the Afcon task of reaching the semi final and even winning bronze. He met the target of qualifying for the worldcup. People saying his team has not improved, is winning matches the only yardstick for assessing what improvement means. Hasn’t the team improved in terms of man power, solidity etc. Guys I understand we are upset about what happened in Benin but saying GR should be fired while Dare and Pinnick are still in office is ridiculous. Again am not a fan of GR but a super fan of 9ja, we should always use the same standard in assessing people. Just my take

  • Dr Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahahaha….Is this news…? Like seriously is this news….? Sacking a coach has now become something that must be discussed at the National Assembly…..LMAO. Sacking a coach is not something the entire NFF and Sports Ministry are confused about doing…..Lolz. If una nor sabi use MS Word type the sack letter make una use typewriter type am na. Confusion in their camp over an ordinary employee….LMAO. If I were GR I will call Dare and Pinnick’s bluff I swear, let them fire me and let me collect my cool cash. With the situation of things in 9ja, who want to go work there. Not putting 9ja down ooo but thats the fact. Obodo our ex international got kidnapped until recently released. Most people who live outside the shores of 9ja whenever they go back are scared of going anywhere bcos of fear of being kidnapped or dia family members being kidnapped. GR call dia bluff lets see if Pinnick or Dare has the balls to fire you. Infact tell both of them u don’t wanna see dia ugly faces in your training session any more, let them do dia worse. As long as u meet your target they can’t do shit. NFF wen nor get moni Naim dey threaten coach wen get monthly salaries of $55k? Pinnick nor fit try am, na just mouth both him and Dare get, so them go look like them care about our football. The truth is Dare and Pinnick only care about their own welfare and nothing else.

    • Rohr won’t be the first national team coach to be fired neither the last. Vast of the super eagles fans want him fired over the unaccepted results fetched against the serrialonians.
I’m of the opinion that he should be left to finish the qualifying matches and see what results he produces. As much as we want continuity with our national team coaches, they must device the best possible means to fetch the fans reasonable results and make our teams competitive. It’s accepted playing draws against highly or average ranked teams but against minor teams, it’s high time the complacency stop.

This definitely would be a regrettable decision should Rohr be sacked.

This is a man who loves Nigeria. His passion for the country and her football knows no bound. He has sacrificed to keep his job.I love this man too much.

Meanwhile,Most foreign managers we had in the past are only interested in boosting there cv and are quick to walk out on us after tournaments but Rohr is different. He loves this country and has desired to take our football to greater heights.

Nigerians are very terrible people. The leaders lacks vision and are known to make terrible decisions which comes back to hunt them.

Rohr is a good coach.Every football team experience a bad patch and super eagles is not different.

A team could struggle through the playoffs and come out tops in the tournament. Most times bad patches through playoffs helps teams to know where needs amending before actual tournaments.Sacking a coach that has been with the lads a longtime now in the middle of the playoffs would be an extremely terrible decision that could pull down achievements made over the years.

I hope the sports minister is not thinking along that line.He should be properly guided.Rohr must stay at least till the end of his contact. He is on the brink of qualification,we are still cruising there is no need to be desperate we are going to Cameroon that’s what matters not how we get there.

  • This is a case of a person not respecting boundaries. Whether or not Rohr deserves to go, the sports Minister is guilty of not knowing nor respecting his boundaries.

First breach of boundaries was when he put on his sports wear and disrupted the Super Eagles training by joining in a kickabout with them. This did two things:
    1. It served to make light of the task ahead and diluted the seriousness of training
    2. It also disrupted their concentration on the job that they had to do

The second breach of boundaries is in his statement.

The coach of the Super Eagles is not employed by the Sports Ministry nor the Minister. He reports to the NFF and his salary is not funded by the minister’s department. It is in this regard that the minister has no right to call for his sacking. He should instead spend his time developing sports infrastructure for the betterment of the sports people in the country. he has been in office for a number of years now and still we do not have a decent playing surface in either the National Stadia in Abuja nor Lagos. This means that we are still going from state to state and at the mercy of the politicking state governors who tout their stadia as state of the art but when the players arrive it is a different story.

The minister needs to face Pinnick and the hierarchy of the NFF if he wants the Super eagles to succeed. under the present NFF leadership, local football has declined to the extent that it is almost dead. The league has not run a full schedule for 4 years, our clubs falter at CAF competitions, our national teams struggle even at WAFU competitions talk less CAF. The CHAN and U23 teams are routinely being beaten by Ivory Coast, Togo and Senegal. Our U20 and U17 teams no longer dominate Africa like they used to and were lucky to make the world cups last year before whimpering out.

Now this underachievement is filtering into the Super Eagles who are finding it hard to beat Sierra Leone, Republic of Benin and only just managing it with Lesotho. The rot is deep and will only get worse

    • “The minister needs to face Pinnick and the hierarchy of the NFF if he wants the Super eagles to succeed.

One thing I have noticed in this country,is that we are mostly guided by sentiments when making assertions.the sports minister joining the team during training was to moltivate the boys,he didnt even spend much time with them, now we want to tend that as the reason a lowly Sierra Leone will travel to Nigeria and score us 4 goals.Let me state it here, with the pedigree of SE on the continent, qualifying for Nations cup and world cup shouldn’t be an achievement, it is our birthright.. If keshi had these crop of players that Rohr have now at his disposition, he would have done wonders.if it was local coach that has performed the way he had done, everyone in this forum and outside would have called for his head since.when you know a good coach is one that even when his team is loosing, they are playing well.yes Germany loss to Spain 6-0.but everyone knows it was an off day, because you never saw Germany struggling to create Chance of fail to spring good passes together.can we say the same thing of our dear Super Eagles.is it possession based football we play?or high pressing ?or counter attack ? No clear pattern of play. Most goals the team scores is purely individual brilliance… Rohr Rohr, what exactly has he done, that others before had not.we need to have good value of our money, you can’t be paid over 20million naira a month yet you can’t win a game in a year.it doesn’t work like that..since Rohr took over, the team has struggle with defending set pieces till now that issue has not be solved,we have tall players yet I can’t remember scoring a header from set piece..we deserve better,SE is not just a national team,it means a lot to Us,in a country where many things are happening, SE ought to be a sooty balm..

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Yes qualifying for the AFCON and the WorldCup should be our birthright Lmao!!! It was our birthright when we fail to qualify for 3 out 4. When the entire world including yourself never expected him to qualify for the WorldCup in a group that had Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia he did in grand style l. All of sudden you’re now expecting to win the WorldCup Lmao!! Which WorldCup??? Na so he easy to win WorldCup?? Heaven will not fall if Rohr is fired. It will only take us back to the era of missing 3 out of 4 AFCONS. Irrespective of the results we’re still top of the group and guaranteed to qualify. I don’t know which game you watch, but the first 45 minutes of the first leg was the best I’ve seen the SuperEagles play in a very long time. If this team can sustain such performance for 90 minutes they will be hard to beat. After all we didn’t even lose the match. No matter the world class coach they bring he will still start rebuilding and a local coach will put some of our best players on early retirement like the African Guardiola did to Enyeama and Emenike. Most of the dual nationality players will be gone under a local coach. If Osimhen was a foreign born player most fans will be saying he’s not rugged enough for African football. Imagine if it was a Dessers that suffers such injury?? That’s the problem we have in that country. Anyway let them fire Rohr and see the messiah they will bring in to win the WorldCup. Better still they can hand the team over to Yobo. Then the calamities can rain in.

    • @D-vardinal I think you don’t know what you are talking about… Eagles struggling to defend set pieces has been a perennial bane that has trended long b4 Rohr… you’re talking to ardent nigeria soccer followers please

    those supporting dare are funny.
“Musa too must be axed as the team captain is not a good general in and off the pitch, too quite and timid to lead. The last two games has really exposed this team and the coach, We can’t continue to hustle backwards folks, time to move on”.
you obviously didn’t watch the last match, or at least, you watched it with hatred in your heart. so you didn’t noticed how musa kept challenging the ref with the ref nonsensical booking. you didn’t watch when aribo was preventing musa in lashing out against the ref.
Jonathan should leave, Jonathan should leave… buhari came and the next thing we are hearing is the lekki massacre.
it is like Nigerians have a default system against progress. so whenever we see someone doing well we revolt against him… like we did against keshi… also enyeama…
question : what has this dare achieved? what were the goals by the ministry, did dare meet it?
and what about using the company metaphor? don’t make me laugh. even Microsoft three years ago suffered decrease in profit. does that make bill gate dumb?
it is only in super eagles you must win every match, to have a 100% record with your kind of players.
@proudly 9ja, you know I respect you… but let’s be frank, do you think super eagles could really reach the semi finals of world cup?!
standing side by side with the likes of Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Germany…
Nigeria don’t even have a league that can compete in Africa. if we reach semi final, where would England be? the same England we are begging players to come play for us.
rohr in case you ever read this… know that the super eagles fans that are for you are more than the ones against you. don’t mind the haters, you will always have them. I don’t care if you have a 100% record, their will be some that will complain that you aren’t doing it with a 6 goals margin or your goal keepers are not on the score sheet and yet you are inviting them.
    funny people with funny reasons.
    super eagles all the way!

    • Proudly 9ja 3 years ago

@kingston, for where? The chances of 9ja winning the worldcup is like u and I playing the lottery and winning the powerbowl lottery in the States. The chances are slim to none. That was why I said we are 30+ position in the world, so the countries above us like France, Spain, Belgium, England, Netherlands, Portugal who are higher in ranking and have better players come sell moimoi. We can’t make it to the semi final to be honest, even tho in football anything can happen, but the chances are slim to none. AFCON on the other hand is possible as we have won that competition on several occasions. Even a country like Senegal or even Algeria won’t be given wirldcup semi final target. How ridiculous our NFF is. Set realistic target and give the coaches the tools to achieve the target is what administrators job should be. U and I are definitely on the same page.

  • I think the Minister of Sports should have far more pressing matters on his plate than to wade into this Super Eagles situation in the manner he did.

Restraint and being dispassionate publicly could have served him better.

Rather than talk about sacking Rohr, I think the prudent thing to do is have a panel within the NFF re-examine recent matches with a clear head to determine what went well and why and what didn’t go so well and why so that the football authorities can learn valuable lessons going forward.

It will be interesting to read the content of Rohr’s overall Post-Covid performance report from his own perspective and then compare with that of other members of the technical committee.

They can then draw vital lessons and put things in place to avoid identified pitfalls.

I will be interested, in the coming weeks after a thorough inquest, for the NFF to release a report on their findings as to why Nigeria failed to win a single match post-Covid and crucially what they plan to do about this moving forward.

If part of their conclusion is to relieve Gernot Rohr of his duties, they owe it to Super Eagles fans to explain in full the rationale behind this decision other than the slim excuse of the 4:4 home draw to Sierra Leone.

After all, they gave him a target to qualify the nation for and win the 2022 Afcon, something we are still on course to do (at least on paper as Nigeria currently top her qualifying group).

But it should not just be as simple as ‘sacking’ the coach. The matter on ground is far too complex for ‘sacking one coach’ to be the magic bullet that will put everything right with the Super Eagles.

For all the shortcomings of Rohr, getting rid of him without getting rid of all other impediments to successful football management in Nigeria actually runs the risk of being counterproductive.

Any new indigenous or foreign coach will still have to navigate the same shit (excuse my French) that Rohr and those before him have had to endure from a Football Association that struggles to put its own house in order.

How will the (new) coach respond to such a toxic working environment? Will he develop a backbone and stay or will he take his shoes off and run away like Sunday Oliseh, Thijs Libregts or Thomas Dennerby (leaving the team in a more precarious position)?

So, let’s get a full report on what happened in the last 4 matches, digest it, go through its recommendations and put this matter to bed.

As for the sports minister, I believe he has far more important issues than sulking over 2 Super Eagles draws.

Has the NFF ever demanded a technical report from any coach be it U17, y21, u23 or SE, the answer is No. When u17 crashed out in the wirkdcuo against Netherlands, as soon as the coaches arrived, they should have been tasked to prepare a report on why they lost, what lessons they learnt, and what should be done to prevent such from repeating itself but no. Manu Garba has been discovering talents for 9ja fir some time now (when his team isn’t interfered with), shouldn’t the NFF have tasked him to provide a blueprint on how he scouts players, what he looks for, etc so that can be used as a standard for other coaches to use with their own little tweaks here and there to make the blueprint even better (continuos improvement). Thesame report should have been requested from the failed u20 and u23 coaches. But No, Pinnick and his technical department are not doing what is necessary but want to fire the coach. Note that as great a team that Germany has, in 2020 they won 3 out of 8 games. these were against Ukraine (both legs) and czech Republic. Thats 6pts from a possible 24pts, is the world gonna end? No, this is a blip but same with the SE, its also a blip that sometimes happen in soccer.

The arrogance of Nigerian leaders is legendary. How many top football clubs in the world discuss the incompetence of their coach on twitter. Even when they have already concluded to sack the coach, till the last minute they will still keep telling the media that the relationship with the coach is fine. The minister has more impt functions to perform than disrupt the training session of a team preparing for a qualifier, in the name of motivating them. Why not leave the decision to the technical committee to analyse Rohr’s performance? Why rush to post such a disrespectful content on twitter out of personal, unbridled emotion. Rohr has a target set for him and is 99.9% sure of hitting the target, why all this Hullabaloos? Rubbish people.

Why is it so difficult to type an ordinary sack letter….??? LMAO. Confusion shall always be the lot of the evil minded….LMAO. They wish to sack Rohr but cannot find logical, sensible, facts-based and realistic reasons to do so……LMAO. Secondly they have ZERO succession plans with 100% guarantees…..LMAO. They knwo they can not afford anyone who is better than Rohr whn they cant even pay bonuses since last AFCON…LMAO. A South African is being paid $120,000 per month by Al-ahly but the $45,000 being shared by 5 people is a struggle for them to pay, yet they want a “better” coach….LMAO. Their conscience nor gree them sleep…..LMAO

Remove SE, yes this same SE led by the same Rohr from Nigerian sports (and our basketball team coached too by a foreign coach and dominated by foreign borns) and all you see is failure. So pls whenever the typist eventually gets the balls to type a sack letter, pls type the sack letter of the hypocrites in the sports ministry and the NFF too. Type the sack letter of a sports minister who left his office in Abuja to go and train with the SE in Benin when their bonuses of over a year have not been paid. Type the sack letter of the NFF chairman who cannot point to any meaningful improvement in our football or any achievement to write home about in the last 5 years, apart from the same Rohr led SE

You that has interesting arguments present them na. Sack coach wey in team dey top table and has just qualified for another tournament with games to spare. LMAO. Nor be una fault, Everday na christmas now for Rohr regime, Rohr don make una dey used to winning so we must play the entire qualifiers without dropping a single point…LMAO. If na those days whey una dey take high BP tablets dey go mountain go pray say make Argentina beat Maccabi Haifa make we for fit qualify for AFCON even if na as best looser, una for nor get mouth to come vommit una soak away for public.

Just like you’re chronically mentally sick to observe that rohr is about meeting one of the major targets given him to with a game to spare while other target boxes await to be marked as achieved in due course of time. Chronically and mentally sick to accept the fact that the venue of that match was a political bone given to rohr to swallow by picnic bcs of his bond with obaseki. Chronically mentally sick to accept the fact that the witches and wizards in edo used the team to test run their newly acquired spells, it’s not normal for the eagles to just allow lowly placed sierra loan to crawl back from 4 goals down at half time. It is not possible! Even if it were against Brazil, it wouldn’t have been possible.

    If we are to look at things judiciously;
Even if the Minister erred by allowing his emotions get hold of him and posting the Tweet like he did;such action could be said to be one of appeasement. The Minister might feel the temperature of many Nigerians who feel disappointed by the recent matches and could have made that statement to calm nerves.
Even if the intent of the Minister is to let go of Rohr,it is nothing new, it is an open secret that Dare never liked The German even if he has been trying discreet about it.
We should also take into cognisance the fact that Minister in his private capacity is a Nigerian and could as well express his thoughts on the Super Eagles even if such would hold no water as it relates to official intent.
We should also note that in as much as the Sports Ministry have no authority in the appointment and sacking of coaches ( regarding football),as provided by the rules and doctrine of Fifa, the Minister have a leverage. The fact that the NFF as a body still seeks some funds from the government and those in political offices gives the Minister leverage to have a say in the NFF business. This is wrong but this is the sad truth. If Rohr is let go by the Minister’s influence , he wouldn’t be first. 2002 comes to mind easily.

    That said,
I have always respected Rohr’s man management skills. But it is quite obvious his tactical dept is limited. It is no use comparing the Super Eagles to other countries. We should focus on ours.it is what matters. It is no use comparing the past. Football is all about the present. Unfair but it is the fact. Rohr knows that. Every coach is as good as his last match. Football gives little room for minimal failures.
my advice is if they are going to sack Rohr.let it be done right now. Because of time. We got till March or so before out next match. That’s amput time to get a new coach to hit the ground running. Go around meet the boys and familiarise; letting them know his plans going forward. The fear of the unknown is unnecessary .You never know till you try. Every old coach was once new and every new coach was once unknown.
    IF NOT.
We should shield our swords. Let Rohr continue.lay down your complaints through the right channel which is the Technical department of the FA ( if they exist) and find a way going forward. It is possible that positive changes might occur( which I sincerely hope for). And I would go with this.

This is just my two cents on this issue. At the end, we all want what is best for the Eagles.

  • _Dare dares to tweet_

The fallout from recent lukewarm performances of the Super Eagles continues as Sports Minister Sunday Dare called out the suitability and competency of Gernot Rohr as the coach of the national team in a tweet following yet another draw away to Sierra Leone this week – Nigeria’s 3rd draw in as many matches.

The Sports Minister in his tweet promised that the ‘needful’ will be done.

In making reference to Rohr’s competency, the Minister was unequivocal. When it comes to what he will do about it, he was rather vague as ‘needful’ could mean just about anything.

‘Needful’ is being interpreted in some quarters to mean the German tactician’s head will roll. But why should that happen, afterall the team is still on course to qualify for the 2022 Afcon with at least a game to spare.

Yes, the wound left by the manner in which the Super Eagles allowed a 4 goals lead against Sierra Leone at home go up in flames has left terrible scars which will take some time to heal.

But heal it must as I believe we need to move on from it and see the bigger picture.

Unless the Nigerian football authority has a world class coach ready to put up with their appallingly unpredictable working conditions, I think Rohr should be allowed at least to lead the nation to the 2022 Afcon.

If he messes up that assignment, then we can talk of a sack.

But for now, let’s take recent results as a painful reminder of the need for the Super Eagles to approach every minute of every match with the level of seriousness that the severity of our ambitions demand.

  • Iyanuloluwa 3 years ago

Rohr has done his best and he should pave way for a better coach. He is a man manager and he knows how to capture the hearts of players but he has been very poor with his tactics and late substitutions. The game against Algeria is still fresh in my memory and his lack of firm decision is a cause of worry. Even at the afcon where we ended at third position, we don’t have a definite goalkeeper and definite centre backs. He just keep experimenting. When is this experiment going to end. His words are not helping matters too..He has been telling us we have a young team since he became the gaffer up till now. He still said the same after our last match. Maybe we will have an experienced team in 2030. I thank him for not being corrupt, I thank him for his man management (which s.oliseh don’t have), I thank him for inviting so many talented players into the team. I thank him for his love for Nigeria. Notwithstanding we cannot tolerate his inability to read the game anymore. We cannot pamper a dull child because he is generous. Howbeit the minister should have acted more maturely

    • @Iyanuoluwa, let’s look at it from this angle….
Here’s is our Recent first 11..
Okoye – 20 (No world Cup appearance)
Akpoguma – 24 (No world Cup)
      Balogun -32 (Featured)
      Ekong – 26 (Featured)
Aina – 23 (No world cup)
      Etebo -23 (Featured)
Aribo – 23 (Not at the world cup)
      Iwobi – 23 (Featured)
Chukwueze – 21 (Not at the world cup) other are..
Kalu(23), Osimhen (21), Simon (23), Onuachu (24) all not at the world cup.
      Musa (28), Iheanacho (23) (Featured)
My question are..are they all young? YES
Can we stop Moses, Ighalo, Mikel, Echiejile from retiring? No
Do we still need Ejaria and other good players? YES so, the rebuilding process will never stop and we can never call a 33 year old player to come and play so we will always providing young team under Rohr.
Any choice we tend to make, let’s make it fast! Either to sack him and start inviting all the Rabiu Alis of Naija league or give him tym to continue blending this so called young Team till they are ready. The choice is ours

  • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

NFF….please sack Rohr now and replace him with Yobo o. Or is Yobo not competent again…? Has he not played at 3 world cups and have a total of 100 caps…? Has he not played under top coaches…? Those were your justification of his competence to sit on the bench of the SE. Are you not confident in the abilities of your employee anymore…?
PLS SACK ROHR NOW AND LET YOBO TAKE OVER. ENOUGH OF THIS MEDIA RHETORICS AND PINGPONGING ABOUT ROHR. Sacking an employee who has truly failed does not require consulting the oracle or calling a meeting of the council of elders. It doesnt require forensic analysis and investigations. You just have to look at the target you gave him to determine success or failure. Rohr nor good Rohr nor good, he met his 1st target…..he nor good he nor good, he met his 2nd target…..e nor good e nor goo he is on his way to meeting his 3rd target. Your guadiolas didnt even meet half target before failing woefully under the same working conditions.
SACK ROHR NOW and get us a BETTER replacement or hold your peace till when he fails to meet the targets you gave him. And we wont take any excuses from the replacement. We are far ahead of where we were in 2016 when rohr took over, we are no more in 16th position in Africa, we came 3rd in the last (24 team) Afcon, we qualifed for tournaments with games to spare, we have a pool of 50 solid layers to call from now, so no excuses…the BETTER replacement MUST QUALIFY for Qatar WITHOUT DROPPING A SINGLE POINT and MUST win 2021 AFCON……….End of story……!!!

  • Do we know that once LESOTHO holds SIERRA LEONE to a draw in Lesotho in march 2021 SE automatically qualifies with 2 games to spare?
Has it ever happened like this under our indeginous coaches?

A house divided can never stand.

This big men are using our brain to play politics just like their fellow politicians.

    When will our eyes open?

We should be crying for this pple to put up things in place for the youth not supporting them to destroy the only thing that thriving.

Where is our NPFL, U23, CHAN? these boys can’t withstand their mates anylonger in africa.
These’re areas where serious attention is needed.

Crying over a SE team that’re already one leg in cameroun, a tournament that would be taken place in 2022 & leaving the reality on ground is senseless.

Aren’t we going to run NPFL again our sport ministers?

Why all the concentration on a team that has experience a great trajectory for the past 3 years?

Fellow youth pls shine ur eyes, don’t allow anybody to blindfold u…

    I REST MY CASE HERE…

Gernot Rohr has never been a World class coach.. He is just one of those old coaches who can not adjust to the dynamic and latest techniques of the game.
The fact is that GR’s performance is dwindling and regressing just like the swag of the progressive regressive of this forum.
The WC and the ANC really exposed his psychological and tactical ineptitude.
Someone was demanding for a coach better than GR, chilax, there are many better coaches outthere. Better because GR has never won a trophy in his career.
After 5 years on the job, he is yet to surpass any records. If we are struggling with lowly ranked teams in the qualifier, how can GR cope with Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria…
Nigeria has the best pool of players since two decades, yet under GR we set one of the worst records in a match tagged “the miracle of benin” against a 120th ranked team. There are many Nigerian coaches that are technically better than GR, the major problem with them is man management/bribery.
In the history of SE, no coach has been given enough room for improvement than GR. But, he has continued to ridicule the team with his lopsided players list, unbalanced first 11, regressively rigid, poor tactics, lame substitution, low ambition, timid psychology and recycling of underperforming players.
If he is allowed to stay and fail to win the ANC as demanded by the regressive, the same set of people will start throwing around new excuses like ” it is too close to the WC, the time is short for a new coach to get the team ready..
Our next match holds in March, there is no better time to do the needy than now. We should thank GR for his efforts, its time to move-on.

  • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahahaha…..Rohr has not been sacked yet and the 4/5 = 90% regressives are already under pressure….including those whose CGPA in school was calculated with only the results of their worst semester…..LMAO. We have told them to sack Rohr if they can, but even after forensically looking for reasons to sack Rohr they have found none. 3 wins 2 draws and 1 loss after contract renewal and a comfortable place on top of our AFCON qualifying group (which has now become a culture after doing away with perennially waiting till the last seconds of the last matchday and still failing) does not cut it for them….LMAO.

We have told them to go and get their BETTER replacement who MUST QUALIFY for Qatar WITHOUT DROPPING A SINGLE POINT and MUST win 2021 AFCON….and their body temperature is already rising, their hands are shaking and they are already peeing in their pants and flaming out like a bird-stricken jet engine….LMAO. Their own cross is becoming heavier for them to bear each passing day…LMAO.
    I still dey laugh ooooooo……!!!

Guys, I don’t think most people here even calling for the sack of GR not bcos of dia hate for GR but for love of the SE. That am very sure. They are pointing out flaws in the coach’s tactics and techniques which we all know needs some addressing for the SE to perch in its rightful place at the top of atleast the African highest mountain AFCON trophy. Some, me myself included feel Yobo is no help there that Amuneke should be the one assisting GR to perovide that needed help to GR. He has played in the African continent, played in Europe, Assited and coached two u17 teams to world glory, coached in africa for a Sudanese club, coached an African team to AFCON and now presently a technical director of a clubside in africa. I think this shows someone who wants to achieve greatness for himself and family. He is in the unique position to be draft in to help the SE by assisting GR to the aim of taking over after GR serves his contract term. Amuneke ticks all the boxes if the NFF were smart. However, there are some things that we need to also point out are that Amuneke failed to qualify nigeria u20 with the talent he had in his disposal after just winning the u17 title. Though he qualified Tanzania (correct me if am wrong) but they didn’t create any impact, even if they did play some good football. He didn’t do too well in the club in sudan if am not mistaken. With that said I think the unique experiences he has gathered both as a player and coach put him in a unique position to come in and help. Tge question is, can NFF pay Amuneke to leave his job at his club to take a position as an ASSISTANT COACH? Will he even want to leave his peace and tranquil environment to come to a system like ours? Can NFF afford both GR and Amuneke’s salaries, not to mention the other assistant coaches like Yobo abd agu?

The sooner we realize that NFF has moni but want to keep it for themselves, the sooner you realize NFF don’t have the balls to fire GR. Moni wen NFF don already chop Naim una want make them use pay GR? Them no get grounds to fire GR because not only is he about to meet the 1st challenge which is to qualify the team for the bigger task of winning AFCON abi u nor go 1st qualify for tournament b4 dreaming of winning it? They also know if they dare fire him without just cause, they will have to pay him out? The moni wen dem for use pay GR out has already been deposited in the private accounts of the NFF officials so where d moni go come from?

Some of our journalists too should ask some pertinent questions to these officials and ex players. I do like people like Omo9ja and Jimmyball bcos they say some areas where GR lacks and players who they blif are not ready and some who should be tried from the onset and they haven’t changed which is awesome, as it gives balance to discussions. Yakubu should have been bold enough to name who he blifs are the ones according to him are good enough to be in SE. That could be a motivating factor to those players to up dia game. With fakenews circulating everywhere how are we sure Yakubu even said that. Am not saying the reporting is false tho. Journalists should ask the sports minister and nff officials real question not always an anonymous source. Just a thought

Honourable Sports minister , sincerely speaking you are part of the very decay in Nigerian systems (though it does appear you are the only little hope among the recent past sports ministers , in view of your pragmatic approach to issues ever since you got into the system , as the smart and brilliant youth , one would have expected you to bring a drastic change in the running of sports in Nigeria in order to put your name in the golden record  of achievers like the chief Akinyeles of this world , but it appears you fear to step on toes to take a decisive positive decision and rather you choose to be playing a diplomatic game with the choice of our so called Technical adviser Rohr (a.k.a Belmadi’s trainee) when you should have done the needful and say Big Thank you to Oga Rohr and show him exit door when his 4 years contract expired which would have made him longest serving coach that can only be rival  by Westerhof in terms of long years on the job but definitely not in terms of brilliant achievement , rather than put your feet down, now that Rohr and his business partners in NFF beat you into the game and got it renewed ( you want to get him sacked now , how about compensation in view of the fact that, you can’t treat Oyinbo the way our NFF discarded our Indigenous coaches with backlog of unpaid salaries ) .

It is only Nigeria nation that is a fertile  dumping ground for all manners of fake products , failed foreigners just because of colour and the fraudulent activities in NFF. In the first instance, how could any sane nation would have employed a clueless coach who does not have capacity to manage a lowly African team like Garbon , Republic of Benin to manage a big nation team like Nigeria and you expect him to perform magic , it is like expecting a coach that does not have technical and mental capacity to handle West Ham to go and handle Real Madrid , Manchester city , Liverpool etc and you expect miracle ; a coach that was summarily dismissed concurrently in 3 smaller African countries due to embarrassing abysmal failure, yet NFF sold that to a gullible big nation as ours , just because Rohr is the only willing tools the corrupt NFF can do business with of sharing his bogus and unmerited salary .
If the money wasted on an average coach Oga  Rohr is spent on Nigerian coaches , it could have made sense and get them developed and indirectly added to our economy and if they performed well, we also export them to the outside word , but it amuses me when Rohr’s ardent supporters now clamouring for Oga Rohr to  be given competent technical assistants to help him out of his deficiencies when we were supposed to have technical adviser n expertriate for that matter and not Technical adviser trainee .

Lesson to learn from the recent past 4 games , starting from the  meeting with the perennial tutored in chief Belmad local gaffer of Algeria , followed by shambolic performances against Tunisia,  and then Sierra Leone ( a coach is as good as his last 3  games , a coach that took his team out in four games and can not win one solitary game , even when the first two games were played in the best stadium in this world) , even though Rohr and his boys were determined not to be humbled again by the local gaffer of Algeria ( as our people’s saying thunder never strikes twice on a particular sport but with a clueless Rohr that appears fallacy as the only way the 44 years old Algeria coach would not continue to teach Oga Rohr football lesson , is for him to put aside pride and white supremacy mentality and go for coaching course under the Algerian local gaffer since that appears to be the cheapest option ); then talk of uninspiring dull match against Tunisia and heartbreaking cum colourless against Sierra Leone , even though the boys are willing to come out of super chicken tag but then  is willing but there is no potency and technical sound coach that could have galvanized them to victory as Rohr cannot give what he does not have .

Rohr is just an average P/H glorified coach overhyped by his just few white skinned prone unpatriotic supporters, who did not only believe Nigeria should continue to be a dumping ground for anything in white colour but would also insult any great minds among whom have also played the game to the highest level , that ventured to tell the gospel truth about many glaring technical deficiencies in Rohr , that was so glaring that he needs not Pep Guardiola of this world or Jose to expose him but an Algeria local coach  Belmadi ( not even foreign coach ) to tutored him rudimentary of soccer lesson 101) , unfortunately Rohr did not help himself by not going for the required training as advised by his employer NFF who were equally embarrassed by the way he was completely overwhelmed in the World Cup and tutored in the Afcon ,he is satisfied chopping awuf money from his business partners NFF and would not listen to those knowledgeable  and critics but would prefer to listen to his few gullible fans ( many who  have now seen what we the progressives have seen more 3 years ago ) , who never helped him to improve as to some of them White can never go wrong , but could anyone blame Rohr for the backwardness thinking Nigeria ? Definitely NO , It is only in Nigeria that we continue to do same thing same way and except different results.

Algeria team was at a time in her lowest ebb , beaten blue and black not only by SE in the recent past but was as bad as been beaten by lowly Benin and could not qualify for major tournament including last WC , Algeria nation brought in their own local young coach Belmadi that had been recently sacked a foreign country as Amunike, Egbo etc were equally sacked after achieving what has never been achieved in many decades in those countries  and decided to either sink or swim with him and back him up with super condition of service with regular salary , less than a year on the saddle the coach struggled to qualify for Afcon where his team had been written off , but in the tournament proper he taught every other coaches particularly our own Roh that had qualified with 2 games at hand , to teach him that qualification is different from knowing what to do at the big stage ( that is where S/E is bigger than Oga Roh).

Rather than sacking Rohr so as not to pay huge compensation, NFF should bring in technically sounds coaches like Amunike , Egbo with Cal Ikpeme Peter Rufai/ Ike Shorumi as goalkeepers Trainners and the erstwhile Keshi assistant Slyvus , to help the eagles because Rohr does not have anything to loose, if possible demote Oga Rohr to SE feeders team , then sack him after the expiration , the alternative is to prepare to pay huge compensation and get rid of him now before it is too late

My happiness after going through all the comments  is seeing so many people who usually join the bandwagon in calling for our heads ( the true progressives) are the ones championing the sack of our HPE teacher ( a.k.a Belmadi’s  boy)

I thank God for the provisions of repentance, after all to err is human and forgiveness is always necessary.

I humbly forgive you all and I will say sin no more.
