Spurs Dump Chelsea Out Of Carabao Cup, Advance Into Quarter-finals

Jose Mourinho finally got the better of Frank Lampard in their fourth meeting as managers, following Tottenham Hotspur penalty shootout win against Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Erik Lamela’s late goal cancelled out Timo Werner’s first half opener forcing the game into penalties which Spurs won 5-4 and progressed into the quarter-final.

The game saw Edourd Mendy and Sergio Reguilon make their debuts for Chelsea and Spurs respectively.

While former Leicester City left-back Ben Chillwell made his first start for Chelsea.

Summer signing Werner finally opened his goals account for Chelsea after scoring in the 19th minute.

The former Leipzig striker took a touch and fired right-footed into the bottom corner after a great cutback by Cesar Azpilicuerta.

But with six minutes left in the game Erik Lamela equalised for Spurs to take the game into penalties.

The Argentina connected with a cross from debutant Reguilon after Emerson failed to deal with the delivery before firing past Mendy.

And in the shootout Mason Mount missed Chelsea’s fifth spot kick which saw them exit the competition.
