Still Time For New Klopp Contract – Agent

Jurgen Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, says there is still the possibility his client could extend his stay at Liverpool beyond 2022.

After seven successful years in charge of Borussia Dortmund, Klopp was appointed Liverpool boss in October 2015, replacing Brendan Rodgers, and he guided the Reds to an eighth-place finish that season.

Back-to-back fourth-place finishes were then recorded by the Merseysiders before the club narrowly missed out a maiden Premier League title, losing out to Manchester City by just one point.

Liverpool’s haul of 97 points last season was the highest tally a team has amassed without winning the title, proving just how good the Citizens were to defend their crown.

Silverware had eluded Klopp since his arrival in England, with defeats in the final of the 2016 EFL Cup and Europa League followed by a Champions League final loss to Real Madrid in the 2017/18 campaign.

However, the German tactician broke his duck last season when guiding the Reds to their sixth European crown, beating English rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final.

Premier League glory could be next as Liverpool are the only team to hold a perfect record, having won all five of their league matches to sit five points clear at the top of the table.

Klopp’s current contract at Anfield runs until 2022 and the club are reportedly keen to secure him to a new long-term deal.

However, the 52-year-old has previously suggested he will take a break from football when his contract ends in three years, but his agent admits there is still scope for an extension. “Jurgen’s contract is still valid until 2022 and it is an open secret that the club would like to extend,” he told DAZN and Goal. “We still have a little time for that.”

Liverpool, who defeated Newcastle United 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday, are back in action on Tuesday night when they start their Champions League defence with a trip to Napoli.

Klopp’s men then return to Premier League action on Sunday when they face a tricky trip to Stamford Bridge to take on a Chelsea side who thrashed Wolves 5-2 at the weekend.
