The first few weeks of the NPFL have been exciting, with number of incredible games and moments from the league.
However, one team that seems to have had some struggle is the Sunshine Stars, so let’s take a closer look at their progress so far.
The Sunshine Stars’ first match took place on the 8th of September. They went head-to-head with the Bayelsa United FC on September 8th and managed an incredible win of 3-0. This was followed by a loss of 0-1 against the Remo Stars FC on September 14th and a draw of 0-0 against the Abia Warriors FC on September 22nd. A New Team

Additionally, some new and rising talents on the team to keep an eye on include Olaoluwa Okiki, Adeolu Gabriel and Manuwa Kayode. While this is a mix of experienced players from other teams and brand-new players to the league, a teething period is expected. It’s still very early days for the season, which means the team will still be finding their feet when it comes to playing together. This is to be expected, especially as this will be a huge adjustment for everyone. Losing Against the Remo Stars FC
On September 14th, the Sunshine Stars went up against the Remo Stars. After the success of their first match on the 8th, fans had high expectations. However, the team wasn’t successful and Remo Stars were able to take home the win. In just the 7th minute, the Remo Stars scored. And while the Sunshine Stars were able to keep their defense in line for the rest of the match. They weren’t able to push forward and score any goals for themselves.
While the Sunshine Stars were able to keep up their defensive skills in their next game on the 22nd, they were still unable to push the ball forward and score. This highlights just where the team needs to focus their efforts. In order for a successful season, the Sunshine Stars need to maintain their defensive form, but work on their offense. However, the success of their first game shows that the team has what it takes to have a strong offense, it’s more about being more consistent as a team.
