Super Eagles Coaching Job: Eguavoen To Know Fate Next Week

Super Eagles Coaching Job: Eguavoen To Know Fate Next Week

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and National Sports Commission (NSC) will meet next week to take a final decision on the position of the Super Eagles head coach, Completesports.com reports.

Former international, Augustine Eguavoen recently guided the Super Eagles to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

Eguavoen assumed the role of caretaker coach in September after the NFF failed to appoint a substantive head coach in time for the qualifiers.

Opinions are still divided on whether the 59-year-old should remain in charge of the three-time African champions for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Completesports.com learnt from a competent source in the NFF that the NSC is leaning towards Eguavoen staying on in the role instead of bringing in a new coach.

“It’s a dicey situation at the moment I must confess. The NFF still want to go ahead with the appointment of a foreign coach, but want to sort out the financial aspect before proceeding, ” the source divulged to Completesports.com.

“The feelers from the NSC is that they want the present technical crew led by Eguavoen to stay on. To them, bringing in a new coach would not be ideal for the World Cup qualifiers.

“The thinking is the limited time the new coach will have before the Super Eagles next game against the Amavubi of Rwanda.

“All the stakeholders are expected to come together next week to take a final decision on the issue.”

Nff and national sport commission if you retain the current interim super eagles manager Nigeria will not qualify for the world cup.
The super eagles under the current coach cannot defeat Rwanda away and at home.
South Africa will definitely defeat the super eagles if the interim coach is in charge during the return leg.

Nigeria has dropped in fifa ranking.
The previous president of nff picnic,? Told super sports few days ago that foriegn coaches are more intentional and competent.

If nff and nsc wants to destroy the only sport bringing joy to Nigeria the sport loving president will definitely remove them.
Fifa or no fifa in Africa the powers that be can always get rid of incompetent and corrupt sport officials.
They should ask mr Jordan the south African football association president currently standing trial.

Our Afcon qualification was “wind aided”.
Libya provided the wind, with 3 points and 3 goals generously donated to the Nigeria campaign.
If Libya had been smarter about their affairs, imagine an Eguavoen-led Nigeria playing that away game in Libya? What would have happened? And with the way results went in the last 2 games, we might be talking about another missed Afcon. And as it is, we are poised to miss out on a SECOND CONSECUTIVE world cup!
Decision makers, this is not even a hard decision. What needs to happen is obvious. Let’s do the needful.

    • And you believe the last two games would have ended that way if the guys knew they still need qualification? Do you think eguavoen would have released Aina, Lookman and benched osimhen if the match wasn’t formalty? The worst result Libya could have got at home is draw, and I’m very sure we would have qualified with or without the free 3pts.

      • Beyond those 2 games, the man has nothing, absolutely nothing to add. Nigeria has not changed from the usual “kick and start” approach. He was there when we lost out during the last World Cup. He crashed out in 2nd round of AFCON that year. He has been part of the establishment for so long to be able to create a definitive identity for the team. He wants to coach the Eagles but he’s not ready to take responsibility. We might not go to the World Cup with another expatriate coach but let’s get the team back to playing good football.

      • Thank you Femi. Pompeii missed it there. The last game about 7 regulars were rested because we had already qualified. So Libya didn’t give us a gift. They wouldn’t have beaten us in Libya.

      • pompei 11 hours ago

Nigeria has lost important matches in he past, with all our regulars on the pitch. When we lost the world cup ticket at home to a very poor Ghana side, Lookman, Aina and Osimhen were on the pitch, where they not?
Even if Lookman and Aina were released and Osimhen benched, are we saying we don’t have replacements for these players, so much so that we end up losing AT HOME to Rwanda?
If we still don’t have a reliable deputy for Osimhen for example, what then has Eguavoen been doing all these while?
The same coach you want us to entrust our world cup qualification with failed to withstand Rwanda at home with just a few of our regulars missing!!!
If it moves like a duck, and quacks like a duck it’s a duck, guys.
Femi and Christian Ministries may prefer to call a duck an eagle. That is their prerogative. But las las, a duck is not an eagle. Eguavoen does not have what it takes tactically to handle this job. Period.
It’s not hatred. It’s what it is.

Pompei Femi don school you here o because his points are very valid.

      • pompei 11 hours ago

Being schooled is not an issue for me, if the person schooling me makes a superior argument.
But the arguments put forth by Femi above are absurd.
Is Femi suggesting that the home loss to Rwanda is ok, because we had already qualified, and because some of our regulars were missing? Can you imagine Liverpool team B losing to a team from the championship IN ANFIELD? That’s how bad the home loss to Rwanda was. A Liverpool coach who loses with his team B at home to a championship team, gets his sack letter by the next morning.
Furthermore, is Femi suggesting that Eguavoen should remain on the job? If his argument holds true, then that is the logical conclusion. Eguavoen should stay on the job. Is this really what Femi wants?
The Nigeria Super Eagles lost a home match to Rwanda. The same Rwanda we’re meeting in 3 months time in a world cup qualifier. Let that sink in!

Olaosebikan South and Ahmed North are some of the fans calling for Eguavon to be the coach. Even Nurse Igetu Ado wants him.

  • Omo9ja 20 hours ago

When a country is run by blinded people who believe they know everything but know nothing, this is the result they get in the end kę.

This is why Yorubas said AMUKUN ĘRU Ę WỌ, AMUKUN NI AHHHHH MY PEOPLE, OKE LĘ NWO ĘWO SALĘ?.

Meaning that if we look at the situation of Nigeria from the top, it is a big mistake. Rather, we should look into the scenarios deeper from the root course of the problem kę.

Kai, if I talk now, they will say omo9ja has started again but how wouldn’t I talk? Not everyone will keep quiet.

Bia, how long does it take to hire a good coach to manage a team that has what it takes to deliver, like the Super Eagles?

“The thinking is the limited time the new coach will have before the Super Eagles next game against the Amavubi of Rwanda”.

Ohooooo, so you people know this ba?

It is a simple arithmetic kę. 1+1=2 kę.

It is almost guaranteed that Nigeria may not qualify for the World Cup with the way NFF is doing. I must be honest with you Nigerians.

There are two things NFF must not do if Nigeria must qualify for the world.

First, Eguavoen must stay away from the Super Eagles’ job.

Second, NFF must not hire a foreign coach if Nigeria must make it to the World Cup. It is not logical to do so because of the time frame.

The solution is that NFF must bring Siasia on board this year so that he can start early preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.

NFF would still prefer Eguavoen or a foreign coach to Siasia, and both a foreign coach and Eguavoen will fail because of NFF’s selfish and corrupt heart.

I’m very sorry for Oshimen and Lookman if Nigeria does not make it to yet another World Cup.

Eguavoen does not have shame. I don’t know why this happened in Africa. If you fail then quit. It is simple as that kę.

Diko is handed a new role while Amaju Pinnick is enjoying his life with our money. What of Seyi? Does it have to be like that? I pity Nigeria as a country.

NFF should continue deceiving themselves. When the time comes, I omo9ja will remind them. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Greenturf 20 hours ago

Government will always want an indigenous coach they never learn from the past..
Tight NFf will in the end submit to the government and the pathetic decision that follows will end our world Cup qualification dreams..
The people who manage our football are all politicians who knows what’s good for our team but will decide to do otherwise for selfish reasons..

  • “The thinking is the limited time the new coach will have before the Super Eagles next game against the Amavubi of Rwanda.”

But NFF had the whole of 2024 to hire a new coach. And each time they kept defaulting to an indigenous appointment (Finidi & Eguavoen), and then start reconsidering appointing a foreign TA again after a couple of disappointing results.

Paseiro left in February. And almost an entire year after NFF is still working out the details of how to appoint his replacement.

That’s just to appoint a coach. What if Nigeria won a CAF or FIFA hosting right and this NFF were to organize it? It would be a monumental disaster!!!

Talk about a “hardworking”, “serious” and “focused” federation!

  • Obaiy 19 hours ago

If Omo9ja of all people is insisting that Eguavoen should go, then he is really a bad coach

The guy is refusing to “sink or swim with our own” this time around

    lol.

    • Ezomo 17 hours ago

Then you should have asked for his own mind of coach he want, na siasia or amunike. If hera different does that make ?

You are always having something to say about other people here and sticking your nose into other people’s matters, but never seem to have anything profound to say about anything – that’s how you told me that somebody was impersonating me when it was actually you doing the impersonation, you think that you are smart ehn? Leave Omo9ja alone and say something original, stop trolling on here.

    • Greenturf 17 hours ago

Guy rest abeg, your own too much, always sticking your nose into other’s business. No be juju be that?
Last week you came here and declared that I am being hacked and come to find out it was you doing the impersonating, now you’re on Omo9ja’s case. You no get anything wey you fit dey do?

  • Tony K 18 hours ago

Nigeria will not qualify for the World cup, even if you hire Pep Guardiola or Jose Mohrino, whom NFF cannot afford anyway. The damage had been done with Pasero- who failed to beat Lesotho (at home in Nigeria) and Zimbabwe (away) in WCQ Mday 1 and 2; and also Finidi George who drew with South Africa (home) and lost to Benin away Mday 3 & 4.

Let Eguavoen go and try. Atleast he knows the squad in and out, and know what to do to correct the few mistakes that occurred sequel to AFCON 2025 Qualifications, which he secured with games to spare. For stability, consistency and continuity Eguavoen has a better chance than any foreign coach been brought in this late to study and experiment with the Super Eagles.

  • Bomboy 14 hours ago

@fake Greenturf above, every other person who has been in this forum for some time knows that you are not the real Greenturf.

    We know everyone’s style here.

The real Greenturf will never reply to me in such an uncultured.

Infact, the real Greenturf has mwntioned here that you are impersonating him.

I no blame you. Na CSN I blame.

Real men don’t pretend to be others.

I no get time to answer you again. Say what you like.

  • Confirmed Wiff 14 hours ago

@ Tony K, Eguavoen cannot qualify us for the 2026 World Cup. Eguavoen don’t have that drive or not ready rather to make name for himself as a coach. You can tell from his invited players, his decisions making, tactics of play and as well as his featuring of unfit players.

Eguavoen and his followers will give you all sorts of excuses like ” Oh, they forced the players on the coach, oh we didn’t camp enough, Oh the current eagles are arrogant, oh, we cannot beg any player to play for Nigeria, oh the eagles are selecting matches, oh the Rwanda match is inconsequential, oh Blah, Blah, blah.

Please note, Eguavoen cannot give what he doesn’t have. Eguavoen, Finidi and other ex-players believe it’s their birth right to coach the Eagles even though they don’t have the required technical trainings and knowledge to get the job done.

  • We missed it by not appointing a coach early. Nff irresponsibility as usual.

Getting a new oyibo now will not work well with the team.

Let eguavon swim or sink with the team. We are stuck with him for now.

The players have confidence in him. And that’s a good one for any team to succeed.

He has what the likes of finidi and oliseh does not have confidence and trust of the players. It is just like keshi and westerhof and even pesero.

Players want to play for the gaffer and do everything to succeed for him.

That one huge reason I feel eguavon should be left alone for the world cup qualifiers.

If he is left alone we can spring surprises.

To those who are ruling out eagles already, they don’t have access to historical information about super eagles.

Anything can still happen. It’s not over until it is over.

I just pray Oshimen is not injured for the remaining matches.

It’s clear now that without him eagles can’t really fly.

He is like three players in the field. He did that afcon. He has done that in many matches.

By God’s grace if Oshimen is fit and available we will qualify for the world cup. The two best strikers in the world at the moment are Harland and Oshimen.

    • Ipetu Madu 9 hours ago

Good point my guy. Let’s swim or sink with Eguavon. Top marks. Ebubedike, Ignatius Abo, Segun West all agree. Person wey no agree make he go drink otapiapia. Worthless multiple Identity crusaders who are using a false name themselves. Idiots.

  • pompei 10 hours ago

Let eguavon swim or sink with the team. We are stuck with him for now – CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES.

Christian Ministries, perhaps you and your household are stuck to Eguavoen.
If that is your wish for yourself, please go ahead. You have every right to wish whatever you want on yourself.
But you can’t speak for the rest of us! Speak only for yourself!
If Eguavoen has shown that he’s capable tactically, of course he will have everyone’s support. The issue is not his person. Nobody hates Eguavoen here. It’s simply down to his ability on the job.

  • Akanlo Ede 10 hours ago

@ Austin Akhilomen and Adeboye Amosu, next time you guys come across any of the Nigeria ex-players, encourage them to read Fans’ Comments on Complete forum.

It’s very difficult for them to accept the fact that Eguavoen is not technically sound to handle super eagles. I get it, they want to show support for their friend (Eguavoen) but not at the expense of Nigeria as a country. For Nigeria to move forward as country, we the Citizens must put Petty Sentiment aside and support the things.

  • E go dey like say only me dey quarrel with almost 20 pipo at the same time. But na only one person, one silly individual, with multiple identities.
