Super Eagles Job: How Players Clinched It For Rohr

Super Eagles Job: How Players Clinched It For Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was on the verge of severing contract with national team coach Gernot Rohr last month, but for the Super Eagles players’ insistence that the German be retained, Completesports.com can exclusively report.

Rohr’s contract was expected to elapse by the end of June, and the NFF renewed it last month after protracted contract talks that dragged since 2019. The German got a fresh two and a half year mandate to manage the Super Eagles to win the AFCON and qualify for World Cup

“It is true that the NFF was ready to replace Rohr and we’re looking at the documents of some European and a South American coaches who wanted the job before the players contributions were sought-after. Rohr had agreed to all the new conditions we thought he would reject in an effort to keep his job,” our source who is an influencial member of the NFF divulged to Completesports.com.

“With the support of higher authorities Rohr was not going to get his contract renewed until we decided to reach out to some Super Eagles players and get their support, but we were shocked when they insisted that they want the Franco/German coach to continue.”

Our impeccable source added: “I tell you, Rohr’s contract was not going to be renewed despite his agreeing to new conditions inserted in his offer, but the players clinched the job for him with their insistence that they don’t want to start all over again with a new coach. We saw reason with them and had to convince government to allow us to give him a new contract

“It is not true that we were set to contract [Harry] Redknapp to replace Rohr. However, there were not a good number of coaches who wanted to coach the Super Eagles. We are glad to have renewed the contract and we are confident Rohr will do better this time around. He is a good coach and we are sticking with him.”

  • See plenty yarns… Lolz… Bottom line is oga Rohr is our coach for the foreseeable future… If NFF and government were not reasonable, at least we now know that our players are capable of making the right choices…

  • Dennis 4 years ago

What sort of country is this? A man you set certain targets for was able to reach those targets, put us back in the top 30 football sides in the world, then upon renewal of contract, you deliberately put terms that he would reject and then see to it that we are back in square one. Why can’t the NFF provide funds for the coach and maybe his assistants to go for fresh football courses so they stay up to date?
I believe players like musa, ekong and ndidi were the ones who pushed through for rorh. We’ve gotten our mojo back and we can now see players of dual nationalities picking us. Gone are the days we had to beg Patrick owomoyela, Sidney Sam, Denise aogo, agbonlahor, Carlton Cole, nedum onuoha while they kept giving us false hope. These days, we do not beg anyone cos we’ve got a decent squad but some folks due to greed want us to go back to that era. Never!!!

  • Who no like better thing???the players see it first hand the efforts coach rhor has put in SE for the past 3years….Some high profile foreign born players where even waiting for the coach’s contract renewal before they commit their future to SE….Even yaya toure himself acknowledged that the future is bright for SE…..Thank God we did not allow a few greedy and satanic individuals to spoil all the progress we have made in almost 4years now.

  • Gideon S 4 years ago

He that has spiritual eyes will know were SE will be in few years to come with rohr … like Yaya Toure admits.

  • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

Hehehehehe…..very interesting. According to the late Abami Eda…’Oro di hmmm…oro p’esi je o..!

Ndi 4/5 = 95%…..Ndi ‘Rohr is always talking his players down’….Ndi ‘Rohr cannot instill confidence in his players’. Progressive Regressives…..people who prefer we go back to the days when we couldn’t qualify for ordinary AFCON, because to them, they prefer we don’t qualify to we being there to contest for a right to the podium/trophy…..Segun Odegbami’s crew of saboteurs….ngwanu over to y’all. Come and start telling us another round of lies….LMAO

Incase you chose to ignore it as usual:

“…..With the support of higher authorities (with Odegbami as their mouthpiece) Rohr was not going to get his contract renewed until we decided to reach out to some Super Eagles players and get their support, but we were shocked when they insisted that they want the Franco/German coach to continue………the players clinched the job for him with their insistence that they don’t want to start all over again with a new coach….”

THE ERA OF YOBO-ISH PLAYERS WHOM OFFICIALS ALWAYS USE TO SABOTAGE THEIR COACH IS OVER….LMAO…..THE ERA OF MAFIA PLAYERS WHO WORK AGAINST THE COACH IS OVER….LMAO. ITS OBVIOUS THE PLAYERS RECOGNIZE HOW ROHR HAS IMPACTED ON THEM AND ON THEIR CAREERS INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY….THE SAME PLAYERS RETROGRESSIVE MINDED PEOPLE CLAIM DO NOT HAVE CONFIDENCE IN ROHR.

Everybody across the world is seeing progress, Everybody accorss africa is seeing growth, everybody is seeing prospects of this team taking Africa and the World by storm soon, 1st it was Mahrez….latter it was Mane….only yesterday Yaya Toure said the same thing….. only Retrogressive Lairs who lied to have “suggested all these new conditions they thought Rohr would reject in his contract” (after reading about the already inserted conditions in the media….LMAO)….cannot see where we are headed. So all the noise about ‘Strengthening the Naira with Rohr’s Salary’ was all a LIE. All the noise about domiciling in Nigeria to “develop our league” was all a LIE. All the noise about meaning well for Rohr was ALL A LIE…..THEY SIMPLY WANTED TO FRUSTRATE THE MAN TO LEAVE HIS JOB FOR THEM SO THEY CAN FEAST ON IT LIKE THE VULTURES THEY ARE….but when we correctly tell them to their faces that they are all a bunch of pathetic, pathological lairs they take offence…..Lolz. In case I’ve not told them before…let me tell them again that THEY HAVE FAILED WOEFULLY…..lmao

Read the story n suddenly felt a sense of disgust at the clandestine design to frustrate another human in doing his job. I honestly doubt Nigeria as a country is ready to step up,with such persons as Odegbami/cohorts influencing decisions.

      • GLORY 4 years ago

That Taribo’s comments on Aribo, however he may have been misquoted might just happen to have come out from this confessional report, if only we do some proper investigation. Because most foreign born players could have lost that mojo to represent Nigeria, if they had succeeded in getting rid of Rohr.

      • KangA 4 years ago

        @Dr Drey @GLORY
We knew the truth would eventually surface to expose the retrogressive agenda of a few greedy fellows who value “stomach infrastructure” more than the ascendency of our national team. The unfortunate thing is that someone like Odegbami should know better, but greed had driven all traces of objectivity from his personae. His vitriolic articles aimed at discrediting Rohr and pulling him down WAS JUST TO DESTROY THE SUPEREAGLES. How sad.

To restore Rohr really needed divine intervention. And we got it. We rejoice at the outcome.

We urge Odegbami to reexamine himself, offer a public apology to the teeming fans of the SuperEagles, and join the collective effort to galvanize the team into a formidable force. My fear is that in Africa our leaders feel they are above the common folks and hardly apologize for their errors.

Anyway, we’ve had it so good. Let the real work begin . . . no time to waste!

        • Edoman 4 years ago

          @Dr Drey,GLORY,KangA.
I am very glad to be among you guys who stood up for Nigeria football. Those among us who are extremely corrupt and ready to sell their sole for a cup of porridge knows what they were doing.
Segun Odegbami was their leader without and Omo9ja was their follower within.
We must not drop our guards or else they cover us with their corruption mindsets. From the distance, any educated person can see that Rohr, as a coach, is real and solid. The Same bad folks are already lining up to oppose the return of Ighalo to the National Team. Yet, these bad folks can not tell us that Ighalo is not a Nigerian. That he is not doing well as a player. One thing is common with these bad folks, they don’t wish Super Eagle to succeed.

          • Omo9ja 4 years ago

@Edoman, I can’t stop laughing o ahahah. Chai, this your comment is quite funny though ah, Edobaba.

So, you guys believe you all serving your country in a right way?

And Oga Rohr is not a human being that doesn’t make mistakes and if we patriotic Nigerians points out the loopholes in his team, we became bad folks ba?

Ah, this is why i love you so much Edopapa lol.

I didn’t say a single word about the return of Ighalo and you already included my name on that issue. Hmm. It is well.

If you want to hear my opinion on Ighalo return, I will say he has a choice to make.

As a Nigerian yes, he has a right to play for his fatherland but on the other hand, I can advise him not to return.

I have a reason for that Mr. Edoman. Ighalo is blessed in football among his team mates in the national team and not that he is the best
but he his futunate to be playing for MAN U presently and Nigeria during his days in the green and white colour.

He also won the highest goal scorer in Afcon. So, what else does he want? Afcon trophy and world cup trophy? That is human nature.

Or because he is playing for man united now, he is the best and he must returned or he must play for Nigeria by fire by force? He should thank his God. His issue similar to Akpeyi.

God really blessed both of them. Super Eagles needed clinical strikers like Yekini and Agahowa in the national team and goalies like Peter Rufai, Ike Shorunmu, Enyeama and Ikeme in the current Super Eagles team.

As a citizen of Nigeria, I think I have a right to tell the gaffer of the Super Eagles what to do if he and NFF failed to do their responsibilities.

If that makes me and other patriotic Nigerians bad folks as you said, I’m satisfied. As long as Super Eagles is moving forward, I’m okay with that. Enjoy your day Mr. Edoman. I love you so much. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Coach Gernot Rohr,I SINCERELY THANK GOD THAT NFF HAVE EVENTUALLY GIVEN U CONTRACT EXTENSION.INFACT U HAVE REALLY DONE WELL IN SO MANY WAYS FOR NIGERIAN NATIONAL TEAM:

IMPROVING IN THIS, U WILL SURELY B CROWN WITH GOLDEN TROPHY.

  • I can only hope that the players continue to play for their coach. If I am to pay cognizance to the comments made by this ‘anonymous NFF source’, then Rohr has the full backing and support of his boys – something I find very reassuring.

His boys know him, he knows them and they have built an understanding which continues to grow with the Super Eagles thriving as a result.

These are exciting times for Nigerian football. Yes we aren’t a team of Super star players however we are building up to be a very technical endowed outfit across the park.

It is a stuff of dreams that Rohr was about to bring home victories against Brazil and Ukraine in high profile friendlies. Yet, he always seems agonisingly one step away from confounding his critics.

It has been an interesting 4 year journey with Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles manager. In that period, we have experienced some high profile ‘nearlies’.

-Nearly reached the world cup second round.

    – Nearly reached the Afcon final.

    – Nearly defeated FIFA ratings high fliers Brazil and Ukraine.

However, those are not the only weights in the Super Eagles scale.

On the other side of the spectrum are eye-catching achievements which include progress in FIFA rankings and qualifications for world cup and afcon.

But, it is the ‘nearlies’ that Rohr’s protagonists want him to address. Well, his ardent fans as well will be grateful if he addresses these ‘so close yet so fars’

Now, the German is assembling a group of experienced players right across the park.

In an interview with award winning journalist Collin Udoh recently, the former Gabon gaffer said:”We have to progress mentally, we have to progress tactically.

The game is all the time changing. We have to find more complexities; we want to see our full-backs more offensively, and we want to have stability in the goalkeeper position.

Also in the central defence, which is very important.” He said.

So I see a coach who is constantly trying to address deficiencies in his team in order to convert those “nearlies” to “surelies”.

Everyone (friend and foes alike) will be looking intently to see whether or not the camaraderie that exist between Rohr and his players translate to success when international football resumes.

In crunching encounters critics and fans alike will be looking at him to earn his wages.

    Interest times are ahead.

    • Paschal 4 years ago

Well if it is true that the reason NFF want Rohr out is because he inserted a clause into his last contract which made NFF part with huge sums of money and d admins didnt notice that before signing the documents, well then I think the coach didnt do well in that aspect. But u cant blame him completely cos those signing a document should also read their contract well before signing. I think this is d major reason nff hate Rohr. Having said that, attempting to sack him cos that is sad cos the same nff corruptly enrich themselves from the salaries of these foreign coaches. God bless Rohr and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

  • Omo9ja 4 years ago

In reality, Oga Rohr deserves to be fired for the results we had at the world cup and in Afcon.

Is that the solution? Capital NO.

is the manager did something better than those that have been there before him? Yes or No?

Does he have the players to get him the results we needed from the team? Yes.

So, what is causing the problem? Technicality deficiencies of Oga Rohr and Oga Agu will still be a huge problem for Eagles when it is matter most. Also, the current NFF have to vacate their offices before Eagles coaches can have a freedom to do their job.

I’m so sure that the ability and capacity of the coach Rohr can not go beyond this level and what we Nigerians can do is to find a young vibrant ex player to join the coaching crew to render great ideas to coach Rohr and Yobo. This is why i said, Oga Rohr is manageable but he is not the best for the job but he is manageable to be one of the best in the world if properly managed.

That is not end there. We need a solid structure in place. No1, we begins to witnessed new and good things under the new sports minister, Mr. Dare. That means, from now on, Amaju and his group should be the last politician or business men to run our football.

No2, our ex players should rise up and be our new NFF after Amaju and his company tenors.

NO3, the home of the Super Eagles used to be in Lagos Surulere, if we want the best from Super Eagles, NFF have no choice but to bring Eagles home back to Lagos period.

This our new Super Eagles can win the next Afcon and even go ahead to win the world cup if we dream big.

This is why we need our best players and goalies in the team.

For coach Rohr to be able to achieve that goal, do we have a freekicks Specialists presently in the team? Good goalies in the team? One touch, one goal strikers in the team? These are the things Oga Rohr have to do before I can say yes we are ready to go.

    Penalty Specialists? Corner kicks Specialists?
This is what the top teams have over African teams in the world. They are not Super than African teams but each and every player has a role to play in their teams not just kick and follow.

I repeat, we can win the both Afcon and world cup if we put God first and we have a solid plan in place.

I can saw we have a team but the goal of winning something big with this our new Super Eagles with Oga Rohr alone in charge of team may not allowing our players to show their potentials.

I support Oga Rohr to stay and with the support of our ex players, the gentleman will deliver good results for Nigeria.

Fellow Nigerians, man management skill is not enough but what is matter most is to have a indomitable team that can beat any team in Africa and in the world.

A team that can win in any tournament with full confidence. Coach coach Rohr build this mentality into this new young Super Eagles team? Let’s wait and see.

We want to win trophies. That is the goal of every Nigerian. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

When a man keeps his hands clean and does his job without sentiments or favour, the spirits would fight for him even when everybody is against him. Mr rohr has left an indelible mark in the eagles, he has brought sanity to the team. We all knew that there was a plan to oust him all bcs he refused to dance to their evil tune and share his salary with them. A lot was cooked up behind the scenes and Mr ex cricket international was their mouth piece. The appointment of yobo was the first evil strike to force him to resign by himself. They felt, well since he’s white and a German for that matter, the appointment of a novice as an assistant coach without badges and experience and without prior information would automatically force him to throw in the towel but to their greatest surprise, he saw their evil handwriting written all over the scheme and simply used wisdom. Having failed with plan A, they now resorted to a tricky but supposedly potent scheme (plan B) that would be easily be rejected by him and would automatically force him to resign out of frustration: give him a suicidal contract with crazy stringent conditions without an increment, That would do the job they thought in their evil minds.i could just picture how they grinned and rubbed their hands as it was sent to him hope to read on the headlines that the head coach of the eagles has resigned but they were wrong. Mr rohr had a thick skin and beat them to their own game and whole heartedly accepted the contract with few inconsequential amendments. They began to fidget to extent that Mr ex cricket international openly confessed that he’s foolish and already having high bp as a result. Now the ball was now in their court to give him a new contract after he accepted it but it became a huge problem for them. they sat on it like hungry monkeys having run out of ideas on the next line of action only for the sports minister to intervene having seen and read in between the lines and mandated them to release his contract in less than one week and exactly before the expiration of the ultimatum given to them, they shamefully gave him what they never wanted to give him. This is God preparing a table before rohr in the presence of his enemies. Suddenly, they all disappeared like smoke and evil spirits who have been exorcised. the ones yabbing rubbish on the media and the shameless one who has been admitted at the ICU as a result of high bp all lost their voices. Where are they now, u may ask? They were just vultures like drey rightly pointed out waiting to feast on the team. Deadly vampires whose sole aim was enrich themselves to the detriment of the team. Now, the truth is out and they are no where to be found. The players love what that man is already doing with them and would not want a change hence their resolute stance to stick with their CO. It shows the high level of confidence they have in him. Now, every Nigerian playing football in any part of the world believes that only hard work, consistency and top form can only earn them an opportunity to get an invite. No more , no less! their profiles have improved as a result with most of them moving to top clubs and attracting the interests of great clubs like real Madrid, Barcelona, man u, Napoli, cheslsea , just to mention a few. Mr rohr is about repeating or even surpassing westerhof’s feat and it shall happen before our very eyes. Just over a very short period of being in charge, qualifying for tournies doesn’t seem to be a headache again. The standard that he has raised the team to has made us ( including some shameless idits) now see afcon as “ordinary” forgetting that there was a time “qualifying” for this tournament now seen as ordinary was an uphill task. The world is watching and like Yaya toure , Mahrez et al have pointed out, the eagles are about taking the world by storm very soon. As the turbulent ship has been steadied, now is the time to lock on our targets and assiduously work towards hitting them with ferocity and accuracy.

Whenever a story like this is posted in favour of rohr or exposing the ills of the wicked you find little traffic here in the comment section but whenever something negative against rohr Is posted here , boom! You’ll see evil arrows fired from left, right and centre at him. Those who know how to type Long garbage epistles will turn their faces the other way. This clearly shows how insincere, evil and wicked they are .

  • All of you calling Segun Odegbmi names, should be ashamed of your ignorance.
No foreign national can be more patrotic than the citizens of their country.

It is only in FUNAM and in the Buhari APC government that foreigners are considered more patrotic than the indigenous citizens.

Odegbami loves nigeria and theSuper Eagles more than Rohr.
Hence his concerns are born out of patrotism and nothing more.

    • Oakfield 4 years ago

His concerns are born out of greed, stupidity, wickedness, corruption, envy and foolishness not patriotism. A patriot fights for progress instead of failure. A patriot says the truth as it is and not garnish it with lies and deceit. A patriot builds and helps to build and not destroy what someone has already built. It’s a proven fact that should be accepted by people like u. Yes, I understand, U can’t believe he could bring himself down to this level bcs of your love and belief in him but it’s the truth. he has sold his reputation for a penny. It’s a pity he has disappointed many including me.

    • Abeg lie another lie this one don expire

    • What is patriotic in destroying a foreigner’s effort to bring back good football and quality players to our national team? A foreigner who is helping to bring back our football from the pit that our so called Nigerian brothers threw the SE into. Are the players being used for the matches not Nigerians?
If our local coaches were that good, why should football Clubs in Sudan be saying that they don’t have confidence in our home based players, afterall they are being coached by our local coaches? The basics of football such as ball trapping could not be drilled into the home based players.By the time they are supposed to be learning tactics they are found wanting in the basics such as ability to trap ball. They’ll rather focus more on strength instead of technique.T he same Ndidi that a local coach said is too skinny is the same one making waves now.
Instead of challenging the local coaches to up their game, some people decided to attack a foreigner who has come to help us utilize the abundance of talents at our disposal for our own good(as if the foreign based players are not Nigerians).
The local coaches should only be taken serious when they start winning CAF organized competitions or at least playing consistently in the finals of such CAF competitions(that is how Coach Amodu Shuaibu became well known from his days at BCC Lions of Gboko)since winning of competitions is the standard being used to evaluate GR’s performance.
The SE is not a testing ground for both players and coaches.

Nice comment @Tunde. But if you have been following trends on this platform you will know that rohr does not make late substitutions, that has already been proved wrong. So no need to bring that up as it is not true. It is just a lie always told by the progressive regressives …..lol
