Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi says he’s optimistic Nigeria has the right mentality and quality to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Recall that Nigeria sealed qualification for the tournament with a game to spare after defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 last month.
The Super Eagles have won the tournament three times and were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Tunisia at the last edition of the competition hosted by Cameroon.
However, in an interview with Channels Television, Awoniyi said that he’s confident will be champions again in Ivory Coast.
“I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country,” Awoniyi told Channels Television.
“The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again and of course, we want to go there and we want to win the trophy for sure.”

This would have been SE 5 title if Corruption and Thievery was not the Order of the day in the Glass House. if players were selected on Merit (Our Strongest squad) and, we didn’t have a Captain that acts as CHEERLEADER, Rather a formidable captain that leads from the Trenches like Victor Osimhen.

Peseiro can’t win the next AFCON. in Cote De’ Ivore 2024, why, cause he is an unwise and hasn’t any concepts of strong and orgnized defensive football or that means defensive style which can protect Super Eagles midfield and back line; so I think as said Awoniyi that Nigeria will win this cup, it needs many things to do by coach Peseiro and players and NFF administration ; these things as follows: Peseiro must rectify SE defensivs woes with strong and drastic defensive midfield and back line, with recalling strong and ferocious defensive in midfield and center backs just like Dinel Daga,Alhassan Ibrahim, Anderson Esiti, Frank Onyedika, Usman Mohammed in midfield; Tosin Adarabioyo, Kalib Okoli, Igoh Ugboh in center back; Sebestian Osigwe, Chijioze Aniagboso, Victor Sochima in goalkeeping side; he must make this overhaul so that he can change unzealous, lazy players from SE squad, then he can recall descipline, zealous players who can die for white and green jersy like I mentioned above; recalled players must put desciplinary mentality in thier heads so they can perform strong and imperssive style of play like 94 and 2000 generation had done; NFF must sponsor SE so excellently with providing excellent camp, good hotel, granting the players thier bounses as soon as possible, also coaches salaries must be payed on time, players who would like to pledge alliagence for SE NFF must squeeze out thier Nigeria nationality documents, NFF must organize big friendly matches versus big teams like Cote De Ivore, Algeria, Tunisia , Cameroon, Morocco, Ghana, Senegal after draw, NFF must select suitable one or tow or three of them to confront, NFF must hire Pyscological doctor and nutrition expert for SE so that they will support them to perform well.If all these things are done , I think SE can win this next cup.

Awoniyi and Osimhen emphasize the importance of team cohesion under the authority of a respected manager.That is achieved. The Super Eagles’ weakness is the administration by the NFF.Corruption can never die in Nigeria
