Long-serving Athletic Bilbao winger Markel Susaeta has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The 31-year-old, who came through the ranks at San Memes, has now made over 500 appearances for the club since making his first-team debut in a defeat at Barcelona back in September 2007.

Susaeta revealed that he has not yet been fixed up with a new club, but will definitely be plying his trade away from the Rojiblancos. “I do not know where I will be next season, but I will be playing football because I still want to play,” he said in a statement.
“My dream has always been to be an Athletic ‘one club’ man, but circumstances have not helped. I am a discreet person who does not like the headlines and the controversy surrounding my renewal hurts me a lot. “Things have been told that have not been true, as an example that I had an offer from the previous board, but now the time has come to step aside. “I want to thank the fans for the support in the good times and the bad times, to all the Coaches that I have had, what I have learned from all the employees of the club, who really make our day to day unbeatable.”
