SWAN Cup ’21: Complete Sports Defeats FRCN, Qualify For Quarter-finals

Complete Sports continued their impressive run in the ongoing 2021 Bet9ja/Lagos Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Cup on Tuesday by defeating the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in the final Group C game.

The team captained by ever-young Julius Ojeagbase recorded a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over FRCN for a perfect record in the group phase and booked a spot in the quarter-finals.

Chinedu Onwunali put FRCN ahead in the encounter played at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere, after which Jude Ogunlana doubled their lead.

Kunle Lawal who put up a man-of-the-match performance on Monday for Complete Sports with four goals, grabbed a quick double to level the score.

As both teams were searching for the winner with time running out, Andrew Ofule netted the third for FRCN.

But Jeremiah James equalized for the 2017 and 2018 winners before Lawal completed his hat-trick with an injury time goal to seal the win for Complete Sports who will now face Multimedia Journalists in one of the quarter-final matches on Thursday by 9:00am.

SWAN has designated Wednesday as a rest day for the teams who will be playing in the knock-out stage.

Lawal has now scored seven goals in two matches and he is in contention for the highest goal scorer and best striker awards, having scored four goals against Inspiration FM 92.3 and Megalectrics on Monday.

In the other quarter-final pairings, TVC will battle either Inspiration FM or Lasgidi FM, while Community Watch Plus will tackle Unilag Media.

Pooja Media will lock horns with Radio Nigeria in the other game.
