The 12 ‘Wise Men’ Choose The Dream Eagles’ Squad – From 1960 To Date!

The 12 ‘Wise Men’ Choose The Dream Eagles’ Squad – From 1960 To Date!

Culled from Mathematical7.com

It is not an easy task to compile a list of 16 players that make up an assembly of the greatest team in 60 years of football in Nigeria, called ‘Dream Eagles’.

At best, it is an academic exercise. More so, when those to select the players are only 12 out of a population of 200 million football-crazy Nigerians. But that’s what this game is – a personal selection of a squad of players with a captain from amongst them and a coach, by ‘Wise men’.

The ‘Wise men’ are selected based on personal assessment of their worth and depth of knowledge and experience in Nigerian football. They represent different generations of the game from 1960 to date, and come from varied backgrounds but all related to football.

These are their personal choices, for entertainment purposes only.

In my opinion the best super eagles are one’s who were able to qualify for the world cup which created a platform to hone their skills and thrived to beat the best in world’s football also this elevation made the super eagles a brand known and revered in global sports.
I know the squads before them tried but weren’t good enough to defeat the dreaded north Africans and Cameroon.Always coming second best so for that reason i shall go for the eagles during Westerhof’s reign till date as the best because they conquered Africa to qualify for six world cup tournament out of a possible seven, that is an unbelievable achievement compared to nil for the eagles before them.
I have seen clips of Segun Odegbami on Youtube i think he is phenomenal.I have heard of Muda Lawal i celebrate them as heroes but i will never pick them for my best 11 because they never took us to the world cup just my take though.

This team should win a world cup.

    • Okocha LM, Amuneke SS and Mikel CM. Waoh! So you will play Mikel as CM and push Okocha to LM. Then you will use Amuneke a natural left footer as a supporting striker. Again, of all the strikers super eagles had ever produced, Aghahowa comes after Yekini in your ranking. Good job my friend. You are a genius.

  • All these indomie generation sef. Football did not start in Nigeria in 1994 please. For all the experts above, I think the supporters club president should take precedence. He is the one that saw these players at close quarters. My two Kobo
