Reports in France claim Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons is speaking to Everton and West Ham United about a possible summer switch. The 30-year-old joined the Serie A outfit in 2017 after eight seasons with Lyon but has had little impact in the Italian capital, making only 16 appearances as injury hampered his progress.
Roma sent him out on a season-long loan to La Liga club Sevilla last summer but once again he struggled with fitness issues and made just five league starts for Los Rojiblancos. It seems as though Sevilla will not be taking up the option of making the move permanent and, with no future in Rome, the former France international is seeking pastures new.
French publication L’Equipe is reporting that the player’s representatives have opened dialogue with Toffees officials but the Hammers are also in the frame. Gonalons is a defensive-minded midfielder who rarely scored goals, with just 14 to his name from 363 career appearances in all competitions.
