Tokyo 2020 Wrestling: Adeniyi Suffers Painful Defeat To Reigning European Champion

Nigeria’s Aminat Adeniyi suffered defeat in the women’s freestyle 62kg against current European champion Iryna Koliadenko of Ukraine at the on-going Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

It was a painful defeat for Adeniyi as she was leading 4-2 but lost after a pin fall.

However, it is not yet over for Adeniyi because if Koliadenko gets to the final (the Ukrainian is through to the semis at the moment), Aminat Adeniyi will then enter the Repechage for a chance to fight for a Bronze  medal.

On how the Repechage works, all the losers to gold medal contenders until the quarterfinals, go into the Repechage and fight rounds for a shot at the Bronze medal match.

The two losing semifinalists will then fight the two winners of the Repechage, that’s how the two Bronze medallists will emerge.

Later today, Blessing Oborodudu will take on Tamyra Mensah of the United States in the women’s 68kg final.
