Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has revealed why he decided not to continue with the job.
Peseiro said he left the post because of the pressure and stress that comes with it.
The Portuguese was in charge of the three-time African champions for 22 months.
The 64-year-old guided the Super Eagles to second position at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
The former Saudi Arabia gaffer left the post after his contract expired in February.

”I decided that when I finish the AFCON, I will leave. I had put too much effort in my job, it was too much stress. Everyone supported me – my family and the players but I grew fatigue, I thought it was enough for me, even if I had won the AFCON,” Peseiro told SABC Sport.
Despite the challenges he encountered while managing the Super Eagles, Peseiro said the “job was special”.
”Nigeria was an amazing job, with good players. We played very well in the AFCON. I think our team was the best until we lost to Cote d’Ivoire in the tournament,” added vastly travelled coach.
Peseiro is still without a job since leaving Nigeria, the former Venezuela coach said he is waiting for the right project.
”I am waiting for a good job, for a good step. It is true there were offers from South Africa, Europe and in Brazil as well, but I didn’t take any and feel good for those jobs. Someone called to tell me about the Sundowns job and about other things but until now, nothing special,”he remarked.

All done with you, Oga Peseiro. Go in peace and don’t ever start these negative narratives to scare prospective suitors. We are a soccer crazy nation. Win, win, win. . . . Didn’t you know that? A grandmother would whack her cane on your back if you block her views in a family soccer watching. Didn’t you know that? Don’t try oooooh!
So the man cannot air his view again ?
Soccer crazy nation indeed-and you have people who know nothing about the game spearheading the affairs of the game.
Even a country as small as Comoros wont take 2 months to replace a coach, this is taking you almost a year. Coaches who has been out of job for years are even rejecting the job and you are talking as if you have the best team in west africa.
You will not even survive 10secs at Mamelodi Sundowns and I’m not kidding because Peseiro style of play is the opposite of Possession possessed Mamelodi Sundowns. Maybe he can check with Rivers United lol Nigerian teams are good for him because Naija teams aside from coach Manu Garba’s u17 team has no style or sensible football play. Peseiro won silver with Nigeria but he was a terrible coach that was also dishonest like the Nigerian government.
I dont think you have the right to call him a terrible coach when you have a bunch of terrible jokes as football administrators-what are you able to do with those since all these years ?.
You are one of the best coach sir in Nigeria the 343 formation you give us is what we use to beat Benin 3-0 we are used to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or 4-2-4, God bless you persero
God Bless you, Pesseiro.
You took the team to its highest position in FIFA recognized competition and FIFA ranking ever achieved in a decade. Since you left the team, the Super Eagles has been on a free fall in FIFA ranking.
You justified your level of exposure, experience, and technical understanding of team management.
Pesseiro discovered the present structure of the team..
Pesseiro discovered the best formation for the team..
Pesseiro took the team to the highest FIFA rating in a decade.
Pesseiro took the team to the only final of a competition in a decade.
I hope it won’t take another decade for a new coach to replicate or supass Pesseiro’s records.
God bless you Pesseiro. You tried.
You are a good coach.
Wish you all the best.
The coach is good the only problem is loosing the final
Peseiro is far better than most other recent Super Eagles coaches.
