Top Five:  Beninese Who Can Hurt Super Eagles

Which of the Squirrels’ stars should the Super Eagles be wary of in Saturday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

The forward who, plays for French Ligue 2 club Clermont is one of the key stars in the team. The 28-year-old scored the winning goal for the Squirrels in the 1-0 win against Lesotho last November.

The vastly travelled striker has scored 10 goals in 27 league appearances for Clermont this season.

He has scored four times in 36 appearances for his country.

Steve Mounie

Nigerian fans will remember Steve Mounie for his stint with then Premier League club Huddersfield Town. Now a key member of French Ligue 1 club Brest, the 26-year-old has registered four goals in 15 league outings for his club this season.

Huddersfield paid a club record fee of €13 million (£11.5 million) plus add-ons to sign him from Montpellier in 2017.

Mounie has seven goals in 25 games for the Squirrels .

Cebio Soukou

The German-born Beninese midfielder plays for Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld.
The 28-year-old made his debut for for the Squirrels on 24 March 2019 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo, as a starter.

The lanky player, who featured at 2019 Africa Cup of Nations when the team reached the quarter-finals has made eight appearances for the country.

Sessi d’Almeida

Another player in the team, who is popular with the fans. The 25-year-old, who was born in Bordeaux, France is a key member of Ligue 2 club Valenciennes.

He once had stints with English clubs Barnsley, Blackpool , Yeovil Town as well as French outfits Paris Saint-Germain and Girondis Bordeaux.

Michaël Poté

The 36-year-old is one of his country highest scoring strikers with 10 goals in 56 appearances. He was eligible to represent the Ivory Coast, due to his father’s roots. Instead, he chose to play for Benin, his mother’s country.

The striker was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
