Torunarigha:I Want To Win AFCON, Play At World Cup With Super Eagles

Jordan Torunarigha has revealed his desire to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles.

The centre-back represented Germany at youth level but later switched allegiance to Nigeria.

Torunarigha earned his first invitation for Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Sao Tome and Principe in September but stayed on the bench throughout.

The KAA Gent of Belgium player was also left on the bench in the following game against the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia.

The 26-year-old finally made his debut for the Super Eagles in the friendly against Mozambique last week.

Torunarigha is now looking forward to winning the AFCON title with Nigeria in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

“I have two big goals with Nigeria: the Africa Cup of Nations next year and the World Cup in 2026. I will and we will give everything for that,” Torunarigha told Transfermarkt.

The defender also reflected on his debut for the three-time African champions.

“It was a very special moment and I’m really proud. Nigeria is a team with many top players and great characters that you enjoy being on the pitch with,”he added.

“We won, that’s always the most important thing. We would have liked to keep a clean sheet, but it was fun on the field. I hope the coach and my teammates were happy.”

Torunarigha’s father, Ojokojo once played for Nigeria and he disclosed the conversation within the family before his first invitation to the Super Eagles.

“Of course, we talked a lot about the topic before the invitation. My dad and my whole family are very proud and happy,” he stated.

“They were there when I was first invited by Nigeria and will continue to support me in the future. If I need advice from my dad, he’s always there for me.”
