Tosun Everton Situation ‘Not Cool’ With Turkey Boss

Turkey boss Senol Gunes says he’s not happy with Cenk Tosun’s continued lack of action at Everton and hopes the situation will be solved shortly.

The 28-year-old has become a peripheral figure at Goodison Park over the course of the last 12 months and has so far played a combined total of 51 minutes in all competitions for the Toffees this season.

The striker’s lack of action has lead to plenty of speculation that he could leave Merseyside, turning down the chance to return to Besiktas in the summer before rejecting the opportunity to make a switch to Qatar.

Middle East outfit Al Gharafa were understood to have tabled a ‘substantial offer’ for Tosun last month but the frontman decided to stay put, believing he can still change the mind of head coach Marco Silva.

Having managed 25 appearances and scored three goals in all competitions last season, Tosun has slipped further down the pecking order falling the summer arrival of Moise Kean and his national team manager has suggested he would be best served moving to a club where he is likely to play more often.

Gunes claims Tosun won’t feature in Turkey’s matches during the ongoing international break against France and Albania due to his lack of action, claiming he’s not ready to feature.

The boss told Milliyet : “Cenk isn’t ready. He is on the bench at Everton for quite a while. This isn’t a cool situation for us. We want him to play. But unfortunately, that’s not been the case for him at the moment. Hopefully, he will solve his situation soon.”

Tosun has few options now but to wait until the January transfer window opens and could be handed a fresh start by a new manager if Everton’s form doesn’t improve.

Current head coach Silva is seemingly under mounting pressure to improve the team’s fortunes after the Toffees slipped into the relegation zone following a run of four straight defeats in the Premier League.
