Toure Reveals Van Dijk’s Defensive Weaknesses

Former Arsenal defender Kolo Toure says
he knows how Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk can be targeted.

The Premier League winner played every minute of Liverpool’s dominant title success, acting as the backbone of Jurgen Klopp’s side over the last two seasons.

The Dutch star finished runner-up in the 2019 Ballon d’Or and would likely have been a factor in 2020 but for the award’s cancellation, having cemented himself as one of the world’s leading defenders since arriving from Southampton.

However, Toure insists he has spotted the centre back’s weakness, information he will be passing on to Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy.

“He’s an unbelievable player,’ Toure told Stats Perform News.

“He’s a top player. He’s got speed, height, he can jump. He’s got technique. He can switch the game with his long passes. He has got everything.

“I haven’t seen many players challenge him one on one. In my opinion, that’s his weakness! He’s really tall and if you really attack him with the ball, he can struggle, but he’s so clever.

“He’s so clever because he drops well, but if you are really aggressive in attack in a one-on-one, I think you can get something from him.

“He’s a really clever player. He’s got Joe Gomez on his side, good players on his side to help him as well. There are good players around him and I think that makes his game easy, but I think he’s got so many qualities.”

Toure joined Leicester last summer after three years at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, having moved into the Parkhead side’s coaching staff upon his 2017 retirement.

The Foxes’ 2019-20 ended in disappointment after Rodgers’ side suffered a late-season collapse to fall out of the Champions League spots on the final day, ending up in fifth behind Manchester United and Chelsea.
