AFCON Qualifier: U-23  Eagles Arrive Omdurman For Sudan Clash

The U-23 Eagles have arrived Omdurman for Friday’s Africa U-23 Cup of Nations final qualifying round fixture against Sudan billed for the Al Merreikh Stadium, reports Completesports.com.

The 30-man delegation arrived Khartoum International Airport via an Ethiopian Airline flight on Wednesday morning.

The U-23 Eagles will have their first training session today at the 17, 250 capacity Al Merreikh Stadium.

The encounter will be officiated by Souleiman Ahmad Djama from Djibouti.

The return leg is billed for the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba next week Tuesday.

The overall winner of the game will proceed to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations that will hold in Egypt this November.

  • Please, why weren’t the players that rescued us in the last U-23 qualifier against Libya invited for this match in Sudan? Osimhen, Okereke, Dennis, Nwakali, Uzoho, Awaziem, Ozonwafor. For continuity sake and so that we don’t start running helter-skelter after the first leg like we did in the previous round. Or have we forgotten so soon? They even need to be playing together for cohesion before the upcoming U-23 nations cup and Olympics (hoping we qualify). This team is the future Super Eagles and a friendly against Ukraine shouldn’t have denied us the use of Osimhen (and even Dennis who has also just received a call up). Even if Osimhen’s case is understandable, the changes in personnel(our previous starting line-up) are just too many.

      …the game is outside of FIFA window, most likely since leagues across Europe has commenced, clubs are not obliged to release players for the purpose of a match outside FIFA window…
