Argentina striker Julian Alvarez is thrilled after scoring a brace for Manchester City in their 3-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday, September 19 at the Etihad Stadium.
Osman Bukari gave Red Star Belgrade a shock lead in the 45th minute as City trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Alvarez equalised just two minutes after the second half started from an Erling Haaland assist.
He gave City the lead 13 minutes later with a curling free kick that beat the opposition goalkeeper and Rodri sealed the victory in the 73rd minute with an 18 yard box finish.
Alvarez told mancity.com that he’s adapting to his new position in the team lineup.
“Yeah I’m more than happy to help the team,” Alvarez said
“We created a lot of chances tonight. It wasn’t just Erling (Haaland) who couldn’t find the net. But I’m very happy to help the team and keep going. We’re playing very well together. It helps that were winning and playing very well at the moment.
“I’m doing my best to adapt to this new position and to keep growing and to try and be the free option that is available.”
Alvarez has netted twice in one Champions League game this season.
Manchester City are currently second in Group G of the UEFA Champions League with three points after matchday one.
They are first in the Premier League standings with 15 points from five games.Copyright © 2023 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
