UCL: Club Brugge Coach Hails Onyedika After Historic Win Vs Atletico Madrid

Club Brugge head coach Carl Hoefkens has hailed Raphael Onyedika and his teammates following Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid on match day three of the Champions League.

Goals in each half from Kamal Sowah and Ferran Jutgla earned Brugge a third straight win in Group B.

Brugge are now the first Belgian team to win their opening three games of a Champions League campaign.

Onyedika saw 90 minutes of action for Brugge and was impressive in the win against Diego Simeone’s men.

And reacting to the performance of Onyedika and his teammates, Hoefkens expressed delight that everything went as planned.

“Everything went according to plan,” Hoefkens was quoted on Brugge’s Twitter handle.

“I think we knew beforehand what we wanted to do and I’m happy how my players executed that. In possession of the ball, we were able to hurt them and we did that very well in the first half.

“The second half was more difficult, but even then we were dangerous.”

Atletico will welcome Brugge inside the Wanda Metropolitano for the reverse fixture next week Wednesday.

  • This thing of Coaches not being able to trust new additions, yes Onyeka tried against Algeria but on this boys Champions league form before the Algeria game and most importantly last night game and the close proximity between the games pre international games and post last night Onyedikachi should have had a much longer run out against Algeria this boy is the real deal from the game i saw against a very good Atletico side he really controlled that midfield. Ndidi has a legitmate contender for that position now. This boy even has the temprement to play CAM his passing range is really incredible!. Our coaches need to shine thier eyes well na HABA!!

I’ve watched this dude more than 5times now, he’s the best DM we have presently. I think Pesiero 4-4-2 formation limits the strength of super eagles against top teams.

This guy is far better than Ndidi in terms of passing range, confidence on the ball, dribbling abilities and he also changes defense Into an attack better than Ndidi… Only one edge Ndidi have on him for now is tackles and I know with time this guy will surpass him too in that regard… Another midfield Trojan is Alhassan Yusuf of Royal Antwerp… That guy is Ngolo kante re-incarnated… Just take your time and watch him.

    • Yes,Onyedika is such an interesting player to watch. He really showed some his many attributes yesterterday’s night against Athletico Madrid.
I love him so much nd really believes he has so many offer in the Super Eagles midfield. Already salivating to see him play alongside Iwobi Nd Ndidi in our midfield. They all have their different characteristics that if combined together wld help solve some of our midfield problem. ALHASSAN Yusuf of Antwerp is another guy l would like to see in and around the Super Eagles team for now…nd hopefully,Ovie Ejaria if his nationality switch materializes same way am salivating for Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea FC ( NFF nd Eagles crew should pls take note nd act fast).

Indeed, the boy, Onyedika is primed for greatness.
      Thanks.

  • I’m glad we can all see the huge potential in this young man. When he chose to go to Belgium instead of Italy, people on this platform were castigating him and saying he is afraid of a challenge. But the young man is proving them wrong with very good performances he dishes out on a weekly basis for his club in the league and champions League. I said before that with time he could challenge ndidi for that DM position because he brings more to that position than ndidi does in terms of transition from defense to attack, hold up play, long range passing and skills. But ndidi surpasses him in terms of experience and that trumps all he has but he is getting experience each time he plays and I hope that the National team handlers will not drop him anymore, because I feel he has more to offer than onyeka and bonke put together. Also, bring yusuf alhassan to the team already. His work rate and ball winning, distribution skills will really improve the midfield. I see him as a box to box midfielder. Also, I heard that the coach is considering inviting Isaac success to the team. I support the move. Isaac has been playing regularly for udinese in Italy and though he is yet to score a goal this season, his power play has been important for his team and it can be useful in the super Eagles. He will be a good support striker to osimhen or any other striker especially since he can play from the left side of the attack.
