UCL: Dennis Benched, Okereke In Action As Club Brugge Hold Lazio Away, Drop To Europa League

Emmanuel Dennis was an unused substitute while David Okereke was brought on late in the second half, as 10-man Club Brugge held Lazio to a 2-2 in their final Group F Champions League game on Tuesday, Completesports.com reports.

The result was not enough for Club Brugge who needed an outright win but now drop to the Europa League play-off stage.

Joaquin Correa opened scoring for Lazio in the 12th minute but just three minutes later Ruud Vormer equalised for Club Brugge.

Lazio took the lead again in the 27th minute through Ciro Immobile who converted from the penalty spot.

The Belgian giants were reduced to 10 men following Eduard Sobol’s sending off for a second bookable offence.

Despite being a man down Club Brugge drew level in the 76th minute thanks to Hans Vanaken.

And in the group’s other game Borussia Dortmund came from a goal down to beat Zenit 2-1.

After conclusion of the group games, Dortmund topped the group on 13 points, Lazio in second on 10 points, Club Brugge finished third on eight points and Zenit bottom on just a point.

Okereke played well but he should have been brought on sooner.

  • SADIQ UMAR SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE FOR THE NUMBER 9 SHIRT IN THE SUPER EAGLES TEAM. HE IS REALLY TEARING THE SECOND DIVISION IN SPAIN UP. 4 GOALS 2 ASSISTS 4 PENALTIES WON IN 14 GAMES. I MEAN HE IS DOING REALLY WELL. HE IS MOBILE, SKILLFUL AND SCORES AS WELL AS ASSISTS. HE IS GOOD IN THE AIR AND ON HIS FEET, STRONG AND HAS BEEN TRIED AND TESTED FOR THE U-23. SO ROHR NEEDS TO OPEN HIS EYES AND DO THE RIGHT THING BY INVITING THIS YOUNG MAN. SINCE PAUL IS FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO GEL WITH THE TEAM.

  • BOTH OKEREKE AND DENNIS ARE INCONSISTENT. FOR A LEAGUE LIKE BELGIUM, THEY SHOULD BE GIVING COMMANDING PERFORMANCES WEEKLY BUT INSTEAD ITS THE OPPOSITE. THEY NEED TO BE MORE DETERMINED AND STAND OUT IF THEY ARE GOING TO MOVE TO A BIGGER LEAGUE OR PLAY REGULARLY FOR THEIR CLUB.
