Manchester United appear to have won the race to sign Dillon Hoogewerf after the Ajax starlet broke the news on social media. United have been tracking the 16-year-old, one of the hottest prospects in the Dutch club’s youth ranks, for some time, and it looks as though a deal has finally been struck.
Hoogewerf took to Instagram on Saturday to upload a video in which he wears a Manchester United kit. A clear signal the next step of his career will take him to Old Trafford. Ajax’s head of youth education Said Ouaali confirmed last month that Hoogewerf wanted out, and everything looks to have been rubberstamped.
“Dillon has indicated last week that he will leave the club,” Ouaali said. “He is leaving for a foreign club. “We wish him a lot of success and know that we have done everything to keep him. He may ultimately make the choice and choose a foreign adventure.” Hoogewerf fired home 10 goals and provided a further six assists for Ajax’s Under-17s this season, and United clearly believe they have landed a star of the future.
