United Nations Adopts Rangers Into ‘Football For The Goals’ Membership

Rangers International FC, one of Nigeria’s traditional teams, has continued to blaze the trail, becoming the first Nigerian club to be accepted into the membership of the United Nations ‘Football For The Goals’ group, Completesports.com.ng reports.

This is in recognition of the push by the management of the NPFL title holders, Rangers International F.C led by Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, to actualize one of its strategic plans in the area of community social impact.

In a letter addressed to the General Manager of the club, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, and signed by Maher Nasser, UN Director, Outreach Division United Nations Department for Global Communication, New York, and dated 22 October, 2024, a copy which is in Completesports.com possession, the United Nations agency, UN outlined its decision to extend its membership to the club.

It congratulated the Nigerian club for its desires to be a member of the United Nations’ initiative, ‘Football For The Goals’ as the club commits to advocating for the achievement of and implementing policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“As a member of FFTG, Rangers International Football Club, Enugu, now has access to defined resources, content and specialized expertise within the United Nations, UN, and the opportunity to collaborate, through this initiative, in convening, discussions and events alongside the FFTG membership of fellow football stakeholders,” the letter read in part.

“This is a big achievement as it is a no mean feat to be so recognized by a global body like the United Nations”, Amobi responded on his feelings about his club’s rising global recognition.

“It goes a long way in strengthening our resolve to make positive impact in the lives of people through the game of football. With this, we have been further empowered to push on with our strategic plans and we are resolved to ensure that our club, Rangers International, becomes a champion for sustainable development and human rights, and drives positive change within the football community and beyond”, the Rangers boss enthused.
