Osimhen has successful surgery, Spalletti reveals return date

Napoli star Victor Osimhen underwent successful surgery today and Luciano Spalletti hopes to have him available for the match against Milan on December 19.

Osimhen was diagnosed with multiple displaced facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen had a successful surgery and he is expected to return to action in less than a month.

At least, that’s what Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti hopes. The Tuscan tactician delivered an injury update in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“I hope he will return against Milan, the doctors told me that the surgery won’t prevent him from being available in three or four games,” Spalletti said.

Napoli face Spartak Moscow in Europa League tomorrow and Spalletti must cope without Osimhen, Zambo Anguissa and Lorenzo Insigne, who hasn’t trained with the team due to knee problems.

Bros I was scouring the internet for info about him but I think this is not factual as I went to Napoli’s website and they said prognosis estimates 90 days..

What f***k,so we are now stuck with pregnant ighalo, unbelievable

This is what the Napoli website says after translation.

Victor Osimhen was operated on this morning by Prof. Tartaro, assisted by dr. Mario Santagata and in the presence of dr. Canon, for a reduction and restraint surgery of multi-fragmentary and displaced fractures of the malar bone, of the arch and zygomatic pommel, of the floor and lateral wall of the orbit, and of the diastasis of the frontal-zygomatic suture.
The synthesis of the bone abutments was done with titanium plates and screws.
The player is fine and will remain under observation for a few days.
The prognosis is estimated to be around 90 days.

This is a huge blow. Honesty I with this news I’m not optimistic about the Nation’s cup my prayers are just for him to be fit before the WC play offs…

    • Michel 2 years ago

I really feel for this young man,I started watching Napoli matches bcz of him, this is a big blow,in any case, the handlers of super eagles should quickly draft in all our young strikers for possible replacement get well soon young warrior

  • His health is more important than afcon abeg.

If he needs to miss afcon and later be OK let it be Jare.

Nobody’s career is worth ruin because of Nigeria.

  • Dennis 2 years ago

Wow. That’s so sad. I pisses me off when good players like him get injured yet Maguire, Fred and Mactominay are always fit despite been so poor. Quick recovery bro

  • This is similar to Kevin (Man City) situation, we can use the length to judge Victor. abi……?

    • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

No cuz we are of different genetic make up…. He might heal faster or slower depending on his genes. Bone injuries are a bit complicated than muscular injuries due to the fragility of the fractured bone…

  • Stanley 2 years ago

Aw aw aw! This should’ve been a dream not real. Health isn’t what anyone wishes. Missing Afcon a huge lose to the nation already. Osimhen, health becomes more important without options. Get well soon, love from homeland.

  • Alphonso Gbefumu 2 years ago

A better commentary earns my response. Victor Osimhen is confirmed to be out of the nation’s cup, this is surely gonna jolt the attacking formation of coach Rohr. So what are the the attack options for the SE?

  • RESPECT IS RECIPROCAL 2 years ago

I WILL NOT BE SURPRISED IF DURING THE NATION CUP HE SUDDENLY REGAIN FITNESS AND STARTED PLAYING ,I DON’T TRUST THIS EUROPEAN. THEY NEVER WANTED HIM TO BE AT THE NATION CUP BECAUSE HE IS INJURY PRONE.
THANK GOD ROHR IS NO MORE THE COACH OTHERWISE THAT WOULD BE HIS EXCUSE FOR NOT PERFORMING AT THE CUP FINAL AND IT WOULD HAVE JUSTIFIED IGHALO’S RECALL

  • This is sad, sad news. Key Nigerian players should please deliberately avoid injuries in the remaining league matches biko. Play cautiously, don’t have to give your all. Don’t contest for every header or tackle. I wish this news is not true. Will Napoli still release Osimhen to Nigeria though? Who knows, his healing could be faster that the projected.

  • Stanley 2 years ago

Wao Wao Wao! Alphonso Gbefumu, there is going to more invite to the SE, the attacking formation would be like the new invite, Desser plays 9 while Odion Ighalo continues feet scrutiny from CD to offense ensuring opponent defense are having a field day.

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

A huge blow for us. Inter did everything to get Osimhen out of that game. If he was still on the pitch Napoli is not loosing that game. Anyway if he can’t make the AFCON we have to waka pass and hope he’s fit for the WorldCup playoffs. Awoniyi is a like for like while Dennis is a more skillful option to him. Ihenacho is also an option and definitely Ighalo will be in the mix. Others are Dessers, Moffi and sluggish Onuachu. May God help us especially with the uncertainty around the team.

  • Biggy 2 years ago

I have a different view though not totally unlike. I think it will be Nacho playing no8 while Odion who can easily switch remains no9. Rohr should keep to 352 formation to utilize our striking force properly

  • Kenny 2 years ago

I wish you a speedy recovery. Your life and Career is more important than nations cup and besides we have other players that can play as well. Get well soon hardworking player.

  • M. Abbas 2 years ago

    Nice1 @Alphonso Gbefumu.
How do we help Rohr out of this now? Let’s come up with Ighalo on top9, then Awoniyi on support. Awoniyi did 8 against CAR in Douala and was not just magnificent buy crazy. The coach must be having headache but let’s be patient. What other alternates?

  • FatPig Cyl 2 years ago

@Alias Wao Wao Wao! Osimhen is recovery IJN, ain’t doubt about it. Desser n Awoniyi should be on the bench while Iheanacho n Ighalo start. Desser should come in for Iheanacho on the hour mark while Awo comes in for Ighalo in the 80th minutes. That’s the killer striking force, not even Senegal not Morroco; bring Algeria even GH, its really goal drips.

  • dominic 2 years ago

we don’t kmow if true or not ok. OK Awoniyi start preparing to take over for the top striker job in Africa cup of nation just incase

    • Desser takes that from Nacho, we keep Awo on the bench for 2nd half.

  • Daniel Aimakhu 2 years ago

Without any sentiment, here is Ighalo.

    https://youtu.be/lsnURsuMcyE?t=15

    • Ok, Odion in our national colors, green and white. Hope the forum is not going to be flooded with EPL jersey numbers? @ Aimakhu, I need answer

      • Daniel Aimakhu 2 years ago

C’mon, we’re talking about AFCON not some club side 5-aside. Point of correction, it’s not green and white but rather show me Green White Green striker

    • Vincent 2 years ago

      Simply electrifying, nothing to add.

  • Umar sodiq and awoniyi combo. The assist record if Umar sodiq is superb. He is a player the clueless rohr has refused to try.

But I watched a sport program where they said the duration for his healing is 15 days.

    • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Rohr invited Sadiq not too long ago it was his club Almeria that stopped him from honoring the invitation due to Covid concerns. And you’re claiming the name of Christianity just because you have an issue with the coach doesn’t mean you should descend to that level. Or does your religion teach you to hate on others??

  • Oseodion Inegbenebor 2 years ago

Osimhen it’s well, hopefully you will make it in less than a month or more but just know what ever, SE is playing for you. Odion, Awoniyi, Iheanacho, Desser Mutumi Sadiq, they sure would play for you. I’m hoping you get well soon. Nigerians are thinking of you during this time and we hope that your recovery is a restful one.

  • Raphael 2 years ago

Let’s be sincere, that switching capability is the edge Ighalo has over other strikers in the Super Eagles. They mostly play a stagnated jersey number. In all, I wish Osimhen good health in no distant time.

  • Bro u don’t need to be disrespectful with all this you derogatory statement against a man that is only doing. How much were you paid self? Don’t worry he will soon leave then we shall if he is the one clueless or you mtchhhheeeew…

    • TALK UR OWN 2 years ago

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CYRIEL DESSSERS TO OVER, NOT IGHALO.
      *** QUICK RECOVERY OSIMHEN***

Glory to God, we learn from every situation, my prayers to ma Striker nd brother @victorosimhen wishing u a quick recovery #osigooooals #Godbless

Chai eeey, wetin come happen to me nah? I just dey see the surgery report card with Osimhen. My prayers go out phiaaaam to you locker buddy. You are a warrior and will come back soon. Chairs! chairs!!

  • Mr Hush 2 years ago

    Such a shame.

Quick recovery Osimhen. Come back stronger.

Though Osimhen is tough to replace and would be surely missed, we would do well with Dessers, Awoniyi and Sadiq.
Three players peaking at the right time.
    We shouldn’t sleep on Sadiq.

We also have supporting strike force in Dennis and Iheanacho.

I could also count on Moffi.

But I would definitely leave out Onuachu ( not my kind of striker) and Ighalo.

  • Mr Hush 2 years ago

    And yeah..
Maybe I also give a look in at Okereke, if he keeps his consistency..

  • MAJOR FLEX 2 years ago

Osimhen was about to enter cloud 9 before that injury, it was very painful because you could see that Napoli were starting to make use of crosses which would have guaranteed osimhen at least a goal, but finally, na the crosses cause baba injury chai, life no balance

  • SAD! SAD NEWS FOR THE SUPER EAGLES. THE MOST INFORM NIGERIAN STRIKER IN THE SUPER EAGLES. ITS REALLY SAD. BUT EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT IS A BLESSING. I THINK ITS AN OPPORTUNITY TO OTHER PLAYERS TO STEP UP AND BE COUNTED.
I SEE PLAYERS LIKE AWONIYI STEPPING UP, SADIQ UMAR BEING CALLED UP,DENNIS BEING CALLED. BUT ALL THIS WILL WORK IF COACH ROHR IS DROPPED AS COACH AND ANOTHER COACH APPOINTED, BECAUSE AS IT STANDS IF ROHR REMAINS HE MAY STICK WITH AN ATTACK FORMATION COMPRISING OF MUSA, IGHALO AND SIMON AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT WILL COME OF SUCH FORMATION. SO LETS JUST WISH OSIMHEN WELL AND HOPE FOR BETTER THINGS FROM PLAYERS WHO WILL STEP IN HIS SHOES.

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

This is Rock shocking, I hope it doesn’t get past 19 December this is why I don’t like Italian football, this is a very dangerous news for Nigeria Football, I hope Napoli football club will do their best alongside Nigeria football to support Osihmen and hope for speedy recovery.

We also have Awoniyi who should come in place for the short term plan, and i hope he grasp the opportunity just the same way in succeeded in replacing Isaac Success in the junior team to help Nigeria win the junior world cup alongside Kelechi Iheanacho, infact this two guys understands each other alot, and today he is scoring goals with ease at the German bundesliga. I believe Awoniyi will bail Nigeria out for the main time against any defense with a proper Medfielder or Co striker like Iheanacho Nigeria will still conquer any opposition but with a highly technical and tactical coach. It is well speedy recovery Osigoal!!!

  • Samuel 2 years ago

@Chief Adeboye Thomas HRH, this Chief self. You and your chairs chairs. Sir, it’s cheers!!! Anyways, we continue to pray for Osimhen and wishing Rohr and his lad success in Cameroon. I personally don’t care about any formation for now since Rohr knows what is good for us

    • Quick Recovery Osigooals!

Rohr should be fired else AFCON 2021 will be a huge joke for SE. Trust Rohr, even if he invited Sadiq, Dessers, Awo n co, he will conceal them to the bench and play the retired Ighalo.
      Fans Apathy and dissaffection loading!!!

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

Nigerian players should also be prayerful na who know go know!!!
