Vallejo keen To Prove His Worth

Defender Jesus Vallejo insists he does not want to leave Real Madrid and will continue to push for a first-team place next season.

The 22-year-old’s career appeared to have stalled at the Bernabeu as a series of injuries plus the form of others has seen him play just a peripheral role in proceedings.

Having spent loan spells with previous club Real Zaragoza plus Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, the Spain Under-21 ace returned to the Bernabeu for the 2017-18 campaign but has featured just 19 times in all competitions across two seasons.

Talk of a move away has been growing but Vallejo has taken encouragement from his late-season outings and is determined to make a go of it in the Spanish capital.

When asked if he has spoken to coach Zinedine Zidane about the future, the centre-back told Marca: “We only talk about how the season has gone. But I am clear that I want to stay. “I want to stay.

I am very happy in the club and I feel very loved by the fans as well as by my teammates. “The coach also gave me confidence in the last matches. I’m looking forward to the new season to help the team.”
