Vegas Talks Up Honda Classic Start

Jhonattan Vegas claims he is playing some of his best golf of the year so far after going two shots clear in the Honda Classic.

The Venezuelan leads the way after the first round as he carded a bogey-free 64 to pull just clear of a chasing pack that includes Ben Silverman, Zach Johnson, Ernie Els and Lucas Glover tied for second.

Some big names are in the group three shots off the lead, with Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler all getting off to solid starts to the tournament in Florida.

However, it is Vegas leading the way and 34-year-old was delighted with his start in the competition at PGA National Resort & Spa.

“Hit my irons the best I’ve hit them all year and I’ve always liked this golf course,” Vegas said.

“It’s one of those courses that I think suits me. You have to hit the ball well and you have to get around really well.”
