Max Verstappen believes that the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix will showcase the best of the Red Bull car. Both Red Bull and Toro Rosso, who are powered by Honda power units, took grid penalties at the recent Russian Grand Prix after deciding to take on new engines.
The new V6s were fitted in that race in order to ensure maximum performance at Suzuka – the home race of Honda. Verstappen has won two races so far this season in Austria and Germany and he is looking to try and overhaul Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the race to be third in the Drivers’ Championship. Despite the fact he is expecting both Mercedes and Ferrari to be strong, the Dutchman is confident his team can shine in Japan this weekend.
“We always aim to win and if have a good result in Suzuka, of course, it’s great for Honda as well at their home track,” Verstappen said of their chances. “At the end of the day, I always want to do well. So I will always, of course, give the best that I can. If it all comes together in Suzuka, then it will be great. But let’s see. “We have a fresh engine there, so let’s see how we’re going to compare against Ferrari and Mercedes.”
