Villa Captain Grealish Hoping For September Improvement

Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish is hoping his side can start picking up some points and enjoy a positive end to the month.

Villa star Grealish was the heartbeat of the West Midlands outfit last season as they earned promotion back to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, beating Derby County 2-1 in the final at Wembley.

It has been a difficult return to the Promised Land for the Villans as they have only managed to amass three points from a possible 12, which leaves the club in the relegation zone at this early stage of the campaign.

Dean Smith’s men have been on the end of three defeats but will feel hard done by with the 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace prior to the international break, having been denied a late equaliser in that game.

Henri Lansbury appeared to have claimed a share of the spoils after scoring in the dying stages of the match, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR for an apparent dive by Grealish in the build-up.

Referees’ chief Mike Riley recently admitted there had been four mistakes made by VAR in the Premier League this season, but the Villa incident was not one of them.

Villa have had the international break to rest up and get ready for the domestic action to return this weekend, with Smith and co playing host to West Ham United on Monday evening.

Midfielder Grealish, who was left out of England’s squad for their recent Euro 2020 qualifiers, is hoping things can pick up over the next few weeks and help the club climb out of the bottom three.

“I’m hoping for another positive year ahead, even though I don’t look too far ahead. I try to take things as they come,” he told the club’s official website. “For us as a team, it’s been a long break waiting to get back to it.

“We’re sitting here on three points out of four games. We should definitely have a few more. We’ve dropped points where we could have come away with them. But that’s the Premier League for you. Let’s hope for a few more ups this month.”
