Villarreal have confirmed the signings of Eibar right-back Ruben Pena and experienced defender Raul Albiol. Pena, who can also play as a winger, joins the Yellow Submarine after a three-year stint in the Basque region with Eibar.
The 27-year-old has previously represented Leganes, Guijuelo, Real Valladolid and Avila and pens a five-year contract at El Madrigal. He became a regular with Eibar following Ander Capa’s departure in 2017-18 and has been rewarded with a switch to Villarreal.
Former Real Madrid defender Albiol has also agreed to link up with head coach Javier Calleja in the Castellon region. Albiol has penned a three-year contract with reports claiming a fee of 4million euros has exchanged hands.
The 33-year-old World Cup winner will provide some much-needed experience to the backline as Villarreal look to improve on last season’s disappointing 14th-place finish.
